Hi All,

I have an issue with USB keys not working on my laptop.

I turned my laptop off for the weekend, now its back on I cant get any of the 4 USB keys I have tried to work.

Now my blackberry syncs fine via a USB lead and have downloaded pics from my camera this morning as well, even dug out an old USB webcam and that works fine. It just seems to be the USB keys.

I took two of the keys to a friend and they are working fine on his computer, so I know they work.

When I plug them in I get an egg timer for half a second then nothing, the light on the key lights up but thats it. I can even "safely remove hardware", so the computer is seeing it, but I cant access it.

Any suggestions?

Many thanks

Just SC

Have you tried the keys in all the different USB slots? May be worth uninstalling and reinstalling your usb controllers.

This means there is something wrong with your USB ports. Try to disable and enable your USB controllers.

Hi

The most likely cause of this issue is that your PC has assigned the drive letter to two devices.

The easiest way to check is plug one of them in, and then:

1) Go to Control Panel, then Administrative Tools
2) Open Computer Management
3) Go to Disk Management
4) Scoll down and you should see a drive that matches the size etc of your stick.
5) On the right hand side you will have a box with a blue like over the top of it. If you right click on this you should see Change Letter, click on that.
6) Make a note of the drive letter just in case. Then if you click on change again and select another letter (try something high like X:).
7) Just click on OK out of everything.

I hope this helps, let us know how you get on. I'm happy to walk you through in more detail if you wish.

Many Thanks

Leo

Leo you are a star.

All working fine now, changed the letter and it started working straight away.

Appreciate the help.
