I am just in the process of putting together a mailing to prospective clients at day nurseries and play groups. What i am wondering is, should i send just a letter, a letter and a flyer or just a flyer and how long afterwards would you leave before following the mailing up.

Make it personal... so a letter.

I think a letter and a flyer is nice as I think they are more likely to pin the flyer up somewhere.

It entirely depends what you are trying to sell and how it would be best received. Personally I would be tempted to call them (or get someone else to do it for you if you hate doing it). That way at least you get a relationship going.

If you are going to "cold mail" them then a nicely designed and printed letter should be fine. You could enclose a business card or little flyer for them to keep but that is not as important as following up immediately.

Follow up the day the thing arrives. People toss out sales stuff and/or stick in a pile of things they never get round to reading (if you're lucky). Follow up that day or they will forget about it.

Good luck!
