Ive been speaking to a colleague of mine today who has her own company and we were talking about optimising our sites, she says that when she was building her website she inserted a page with keywords relating to her business all the way down it, i.e. "law, commercial law, criminal law, 24 hour assistance" that kind of thing - the page is hidden but its on their web server and she said it heped her get to the top of the listings, does anyone know if this actually works?? (it sounds a bit offy to me but Im no web expert!)
Thanks
Sarah :)

No. This is know as keywords spamming and if anything it is likely to hurt her ranking rather than help it.

Well you need to have some Keywords meta tag and a description meta tag in your code if you want to be listed correctly in the different search engines...
What is not allowed is to have to many keywords (or repeating those again and again ) or a description that is too long...
To see your meta tag: go on your website , right click and choose "View source"
As you can see you only have a title but no keywords or description.
I found this website that gives more information:

Just be carefull to follow the rules (google, yahoo, etc...)
