Hi,

I have been approached by the magazine Marie Claire,to either advertise in their shop bought glossie or online on their website.

Before I commit myself,I would be interested in hearing how to go about checking, if for the fees, you get a good response,by this I mean sales.
I thought maybe emailing other advertisers for their feed back?

For the fee they charge, I would put in the wording and photo and can alter the advert any time.................and no it is not a whole page ( I wish)!

So basically I am paying them to show my ad, but I get to do the write up. To be honest it's not an awfully expensively outlay ,but I am stuck in the delemma of paying for SEO ( hope get this done) or the adverting root.

I have blogs and am on Facebook and Twitter ,do press releases and that just doesn't generate any interest - which surprises me as I think my press releases are jolly good but obviously Joe and Josephine public don't.

So suggestions welcome please.

Kind regards,

As head of marketing for a website, I have tried several printed adverts, none of them have yielded a ROI.

In my opinion magazine subscriptions are dropping now in the advent of the internet being accessable to almost everyone.

I'm an ex-media sales rep and would not go back to that industry to sell print advertising. Personally I no longer buy any newspapers or magazines, I find all the information I need on the internet.

The biggest success with regards to advertising has been through voucher code affiliate sites and running competitions on Twitter and on our blog, but this may not work for your company.

It's a difficult one but consider: Is the MC readership demographic actually your customers?

Ask them about their customers' success with advertising.

Magazine ads have frequently been shown to be a waste of money for unknown brands.

If your Press Releases are not being picked up then perhaps study more about how to get free PR - there is loads on the web about that.

Do a deal with them - if they write some editorial about you - you place an ad for the following issue. seems fair.

Excellent food for thought there.

I must admit I read my local paper on line.

Thank you both,

I also can send vouchers as there is software set up on my site to do this!

I thought give 10% discount to a client's next purchase when they introduce a new customer who spends over £10
