Hi guys

Having a complete nightmare today, I have used Windows 7 back-up utility and saved an image of my hard-disk to my external Iomega hard disk.

I am now trying to restore the image today, I use the DVD that I also created and boot from it, I select "restore an image" and then it can't find the bloody image anywhere!!! It doesn't show up the external Iomega hard disk or allow me to select it from this disk.

I thought maybe the drivers for the external hard disk need to be installed and when I click install drivers it gives shows me all my drives to select from including the Iomega one where the image is stored, so it know it is there.

I have tried plugging it into different USB ports but it just won't show it as an external drive, if it did I could then just select the folder where the image is and restore it.

What the hell is going on, anyone!!!

Many thanks

D

...also tried from within windows by going into control panel > Restore.

I select "Select another backup to restore files from" and nothing is shown in the window, I click refresh and nothing displays.

What software did you use to create the image on the external drive?

I just used Windows 7 built in software.

...I have now sorted this, just incase anyone has the same problem...

It seems that the image that is created cannot be moved from where it was originally written to, eg; you can't put it in a new folder or rename the original folder, which is pretty bloody stupid if you ask me.

With Acronis you can manually select the path to the image so it doesn't matter where the image is.

I do find Acronis to be much better at Imaging than most other utilities. Glad you got it sorted.
