Website search function

Hi

We are looking to create a website directory for eco friendly businesses.
We want to add a search function to the site where visitors can type in type of company they are looking for or company name if they know it.

How can we add such a thing and is there any kind of app we can get to put on site to do this. any help would be great.

Just google for directory scripts and find one you like. It will have all the categorisation and search things built in. All you need to do is configure the thing.

Business listings are a really popular website function. There are a lot of pre-built directory scripts that you could set up very easily, and shouldn't involve any cost to you.

Thanks for advice guys we're still in the idea's process.
Not sure if there is a market for another directory website even though ours will be environmentally friendly companies only. Still doing research on this.

Did a quick search for 'directory of environmentally friendly companies' and it looks like there a bunch of folks doing this already so... could be a thankless gesture.

Could work well as part of an informative site with a general green focus but as a site on it's own, you may be up against well established green directories.

Yeah we been looking at other sites.
We would offer a listing for FREE and charge to advertise on different places on website i.e banners etc and in emails.

We would also have information pages about different environment topics

Drupal, Joomla and Wordpress all have directory plugins and are extendable so any of those would be a good starting point for this project.
