View Full Version : Don't lie!!!!

I have just been called by a telemarketing company (annoying as I am on the TPS database).

I asked them right at the start if it was advertising 'No' she says.

then she proceeds to tell me about their website where 'for only ten pounds a week' they will advertise my wares to their members.

what do they think they are going to gain by lying?

do they really believe that they aren't selling advertising or are they just wanting to get a few seconds more with the customer to explain how good their service is?

To me it's just counterproductive. I won't buy from anyone who annoys me or lies to me. So why bother both annoying and lying to me in the first few seconds of the call?

One point id like to add, they are telesales not telemarketing. We always get tard with the same brush yet we are nothing alike.

Telesales does exactly that. They try to sell over the phone, double glazing, phones etc.

Telemarketing is its educated older brother.

All my clients products are of high value and are not something you can sell over the phone and grab a credit card, many are technical conversations and arrangements are made to meet the client. people are not harrassed day in day out by the same company, our attitude is that we dont want to speak to anyone that does not want to speak to us.

One of your clients does'nt seem to mind using telemarketing. As they are one of mine too.

Hi Michael,

Yes you're right!

We use telemarketing too - it's an essential tool for us! (and I assume for every business which sells a product or service)

I just checked out the telemarketing script on your site and I think it's brilliant.

It's very good advice on there to know your customer.

I wish all callers were as clear and straight to the point so one doesn't lose interest.

Take care

Not wishing to doubt the validity of the difference between Telemarketing and Telesales but what exactly is it that distiguishes your campaign to sell advertising for Go! magazine and some urchin phoning me to sell me advertising on their website?

We did not sell advertising for GO!

We ran a campaign for articles for the magazine.

I have just been called by a telemarketing company (annoying as I am on the TPS database).

I always find that telling them that I'm registered with the TPS and asking why they're ringing me, results in a hasty apology and the caller hangs up!

good advice.

was this at a phone number that you use for business or your domestic home phone?

Business.

However I've made complaints to the TPS and it turns out that it now has no legal powers to stop businesses calling people who are registered.

pointless really

If it's business then you cannot sign out on TPS... it is only for domestic numbers to stop 'old grannies' getting harrassed :)

If you have a business number that you advertise anywhere then you are fair game...

In terms of telesales you cannot beat the fact that I had Chris Martin on the telephone on Monday.

Just imagine the lead singer of Coldplay telephoning me (presumably he was looking for my advice on how to develop his SME business!!!)

The only thing I couldn't quite get was why he had an asian accent and was asking if my telephone calls were more than £75 per quarter and it turns out that he works for Tulip communications selling telephone packages.

Times must be very hard in the music business :D :D :D :D
