Sounds promising Jerry.

The quickest (and cheapest) way of starting to advertise would be to create some flyers (either yourself or have someone design them) and distribute them locally, depending on your advertising budget you could also hire a company to distribute them nationwide.

The next step is probably getting some banners on fashion websites (though depending on the site this may be expensive) you could also look into pay-per-click advertising (such as Google Adwords)

I hope this is useful and I wish you the best of success.

Hiya, once you are listed with Google Maps, Yell.Com, Kellys Services, Thompson Local and any other free location biased directories, then start looking at local business directories and just keep on submitting (to the free ones).

Hopefully the following wont confuse:
Dont do submissions to link exchanges or link farm submissions (black hat).
Purely Google free business directories
or
free YOURLOCATION business directories
or
Free Fashion business directories

There should be a good few and spending a few days putting your URL into as many of them as you can should give search engines a good idea that you want to turn up on results for UK / local based clothing outlet searches.

Theres loads more to do with SEO like getting onto DMOZ and Blogging etc, but ultimately your website is done and thats good, now you need to tell poeople about it. Get the link out there (but not in black hat places)

:)

I just thought I should also mention.

Get a purely business contact number on the website before you start getting it too well known. Once your website comes top when someone searches for
clothes near me

then you will also start getting inundated with marketing calls so it is worth getting a new mobile phone SIM chip and number so at 17:30 you can turn it off :)

I made that mistake and still get marketing calls on my mobile even though my website shows an 0845 number now.

what i would suggest is that hire some SEO guy and make some contract with him such as profit sharing as per the marketing value and on a very minimum value you can get work done and you web site will have a minimum traffic of 500 visits per day Google Payper click will be way too costly:)

I like Lindsay's solution of sorting out the number asap and then turning it off! Excellent advice. Plus sipgate a voip provider is still providing free phone numbers I believe. Ideal if you don't want a mobile number on your site, but a local landline.

SEO is important (and something I do for clients), but I also like SercoNetworks mention of flyers. Don't forget the non-internet marketing and promotions also. Perhaps part of your website design you could have a voucher / coupon code option built into the shopping cart. Have you seen the amount of voucher sites around these days? unbelievable!

Right could say more, but it's friday night. Must dash.

Best of luck.

Do you honestly think flyers still work? When you get at least 5 every day, 150/month. Do you still check them? I cant remember last time I looked at flyer.

Flyers.....billboards, newspaper ads, television ads, internet ads, telesales etc.... we all get bombarded with them everyday. A flyer through the door on it's own has more impact with me, than one accompanying a newspaper.

With a flyer I will take note when it's good quality paper, often a gloss and well good presentation.

Rob does make a good point though. Many people don't bother with them. Nationwide campaign? I wouldn't bother. Do your research, set a small budget and do a test run if you do. When I was involved years back with a flyer campaign it was the numbers game and I hate to think of all the paper that got thrown away, especially without a glance, but it did produce results for that particular company.

I'm not backing up serco's mention of flyers, do the research, but don't forget non-internet promotion also (as I already mentioned).

I never read a single flyer, anyway they all are kebabs/pizza/estate agents. But as I read newspapers and if there is a flyer inside, I actually do look at it.

With a flyer I will take note when it's good quality paper, often a gloss and well good presentation. Most of them usually are on shiny paper.

Many people don't bother with them. Just because they all are the same. What would get my attention - something different. For example keyring from estate agent, free meal voucher(smelling food) worth 5£ from takeaway. Or fridge magnet. Even free pen - I would look at leaflet :D

You got my idea.

A little bit of advice on getting marketing calls...set up a premium rate telephone line (re-directed to a payg mobile) charging £1.50 a minute for every call.

Publish it on your web site under this banner

MARKETING & ADVERTISING DEPARTMENT
0908 xxx xxx (calls cost £1.50 per minute)

If marketeers call you, tell them you really want to buy something, but they have to go through the marketing department. If a call centre in India or somewhere far off gets it they might call you and you keep them talking for an hour.....
