Hello. My name is Jim Barker and I'm a graphic designer and cartoonist from Falkirk in Scotland. I started my own business over twenty years ago when I took a voluntary redundancy from my job as staff artist with my local newspaper. I work in all the usual areas - corporate ID, advertising, brochures, marketing and PR. I have always drawn cartoons and humorous illustration as partof my artistic repertoire and have been making a conscious effort in the past few years to expand that side of the business.

I work in a variety of styles - from simple 'Mr Men" to airbrush - style rendering - in black and white and colour. I have provided artwork for books, magazines, newspapers, marketing and PR and illustrated childrens prorammes for BBC Scotland. I seem to have had a spate of work for health and safety brochures recently - ask me nicely and I'll show you my cartoons about diarrohea and testicular cancer... Last year I started producing my own range of cartoon fridge magnets and keyring and I also produce these as promotional items for businesses. I also specialise in caricature and presentation cartoon portraits, for publication and gifts.

You can see samples of my work on my websites:

I have also recently become an agent for the MyVideoTalk system:

Despite years of puttering around the internet I have only just discovered the joys of forums and I already recognise some familiar names (Hi Amber, Hi Jaqui!). I look forward to joining in the forum discussions and contributing as much as possible.

Thamks for the kind words about my cartoons, folks.

I need them after licking my wounds following a meeting today with an Edinburgh publisher who more or less said that my work was "old fashioned" and "down market". I wouldn't mind (well, yes I would...) but he invited me through to visit him after I'd sent him some samples.... :(

That was just a rude thing to do Jim, take no notice. I think your cartoons are fab!

Hi Jim,

I'm a big fan of cartoon illustration and I'm loving your work :D

It's definitely not old fashioned - in fact I'd say it's very hip at the moment ;)
