Can anyone help?
My google page has changed! There are no maps or sponsored links at the top or down the right hand page.
Has someone been messing with my settings? Or is this normal?

Google changed their interface a couple of weeks back. Not everyone has been seeing the new 'bing clone' SERP.

Nothing wrong with your settings, it's their new look.

I personally think it's horrible, and wish they would change it back.

Steve202 - Its horrendous!! So empty! So what happens to everyone that pays for ads? If nobody can see them???

I think it depends on what you search for. For instance, when I search for "computer repairs in staffordshire" the sponsored links appeared, but when I search on how to spell a word, they don't.

Google have listened to those who have been critical of their cluttered interface. I blogged about it a liuttle while back Google serps change (http://www.oldwelshguy.co.uk/industry-news/are-google-falling-into-the-bear-trap/)

I find it a little disconcerting right now, but I reckon that, in a few months' time, I'll really like it.

What I don't like about it is I keep thinking I am still in blog search.

I got a kicking from my most feared user over this.

She was convinced it was something I had done, and demanded that I change it back!

I know the sort.

Even when you explain its someone else's doing they say "stop giving me excuses and just do your job and fix it".

I got very excited when a particular site of mine jumped from no-where to second in the listings. But no, for some reason this change has re-enabled the computer specific search capability. So I had to disable it again!

I am still using Google mostly but actually do like Bing - the photo's anyway.

Love it.
Related searches-easier.
Wonder wheel-great.
Fewer/more shopping sites-excellent.

I like the look and features but does anybody know how to make the results default to "Pages from the UK" instead of "The Web"?

http://www.google.co.uk/webhp?cr=countryUK

Sorted.

Thanks very much for your help Dawg.
I tried this but I still got results for "The Web"...it must be something I've done to my settings somehow.
I'll just have to move that mouse and click one more time!!

My view is so focussed on the results it took someone pointing this out to me before I noticed. That said, I was always a fan of the advanced search (yep, I was the one) so it is nice to have these extra features at your disposal.

At the end of the day, if you spend time looking for stuff, this should make it easier so that's fine by me.
