Hey,
I'm hoping someone can recommend a very simple and easy to use bar code stock inventory control system designed with the sole purpose off reducing manual data entry.
There are plenty of solutions on line i know, but most are justifiably expensive and too feature rich for what we require. All we need this to do for us is:
- Scan products in & out of stock using a hand held bar code scanner
- PC connectivity at the end of each day to auto adjust stock levels
- Set minimum stock / re-order levels of each product line / SKU
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

What accounting system do you use?

For stock control we currently use a programme called 'Basic Inventory Control'.
It works very well for us but we're looking to double our stock inventory over the next 6 months and manual input of every order is time consuming.

Hi Andy,
Plenty of systems about that can do this, although, I might suggest that wireless connectivity for the handhelds may be more streamlined & cost effective for you than a download to PC at the end of each day?
Some kind of ERP is the best way to go - If you would like some advice on a system which we have installed for a client & recommend (cheaper than just about any other around too!) then by all means drop me a line.

Dis you find something that works? I am after the same kind of system but with wireless technology. Mainly something for stock checks so we just scan the barcode and it creates a database which we can then cross reference with our online stock system.

I mentioned above that we use a programme called BIC (Basic Inventory Control) by Microguru, which does everything we need except bar code / batch upload.
Having had no luck finding something similar within budget, i contacted http://www.microguru.com/ to see if they could help. By chance a new version of this programme was already in the pipe line and will be on general release from July 5th 2010. We should be getting a demo sent to us on June 28th.
They've not given much away with regards to the extra functionality as yet so we'll need to wait untill next week. I'll keep the thread updated but it may be worth your while dropping them an email requesting a copy of the demo too.

What about hardware? Will any wireless barcode reader do the job?

Hopefully any USB, Windows compatiable scanner will suffice. I won't know for sure until Monday at the earliest.

Hi Andy
I might be able to help, we're barcoding experts here on both the Rugged/Barcode hardware side and we have .NET expertise. We deliver parcel delivery, warehouse, GPS/field apps all the time and there are hundreds of issues you have with these kinds of specialist apps. We in fact work with many accountancy companies who simply step away from the barcoding/warehouse bit.
We don't have a specific product we can sell you but we could very quickly and easily build you something from previously delivered projects.
We could also sell you a barcode scanner. Be careful on this, you need to get the right one in terms of scanning engine and ruggedness.
What's your budget? If you want to PM me, then feel free to do so.

The Microguru release i mentioned previously in the thread wasn't anything close to our requirements, so i waited in anticipation only to be dissapointed :(
I later found just what i was looking for from Redbeam Inventory Control. A little more costly than i'd hoped, but in terms of ROI it'll be worth every penny and it's functionality will grow with your business. We're looking to have this up and running early in the new year.
Demo video: http://www.redbeam.com/products/inventory/video.php
I hope this helps :)

:) No problem. Keep the thread updated for others if you go ahead with the solution. I'll be doing the same when we have it up and running too.
