Hi, thanks for looking at my message.

I operate an internet based service that gets business travellers togther when they are travelling. I spent half of my life travelling on business and know how boring it can get, so I came up with this. It's web based and new, but is getting good traffic.

The reason I am here is to get some advice on increasing traffic flow to the site. I have google adword campaigns out and have press releases and a number of other initiatives. I'd love to hear what other people have done to increase flow.

the site is travellersmeetingpoint.com

thanks

Hi

Welcome to the forums and best of luck with your venture.

I had a quick look at your site and found the World cup ticket exchange part. How does that work ? I thought all tickets were going to have the original buyers name on them ?

Best of luck again

Jacqui :D

Hi and welcome,

Great site. Perhaps getting some reciprocal links going with some travel sites is worth considering initially so that you can build up membership. I assume that your business model is based on generating advertising revenue from travel related businesses in due course. Or some direct contra advertising agreements with in-flight or other travel magazines might be worth exploring.

I expect that as far as Adwords are concerned, the content network sites will probably work best for you as far as Google is concerned.

As a regular a traveller I look forward to seeing how it works.

All the best, JR

I'll try to respond to the questions in turn.

First of all my name is Peter.

Jaqui,

You are correct about FIFA announcing that the tickets will be marked with id numbers. But this is pretty doomed, about 50% of the tickets have gone to locals that have sold them to touts. If you look around on the internet there are lots of touts with tickets at E1300 though!! The truth is the german police will never allow this amount of people to be locked out...might be a riot!

The site works by matching people with tickets to sell or swap with people who either want to buy tickets or have tickets to swap. A lot of traffic is coming from the conditional side of the site that allows people to conditionally swap tickets if their team comes second in the group, when they planned the ticket route foor winning the group. It also allows people to conditionelly buy or sell depending on whether theri team is playing.

I hope that explains it? The main advantage is that you are dealing directly with other fans and don't have to pay a ticket broket thousands in advance and maybe still not get tickets.

I'll start another reply for the others thanks

John,
Thanks for the advice...I spend half my life on a plane too...that's where the idea came from.

I'm not sure how getting adwords into specific content sites works, but I'll go to google and find out.

Lawrence,

Looking at your URL I think we could probably helpeach other out.

I'd be interested in your thoughts.

Thanks

Peter

Hi Peter

Thanks for that. It will be interesting to see how the Germans handle the situation. They are saying that they will be checking that passport / id names match those on the tickets.

Having been at a match before that used this strategy I can tell you that it will be very difficult to do. We had to wait for 70mins to get in and it usually only takes 20mins.

I look forward to seeing you around the forum.

Hi Arial and thanks.

Jacqui,

Most of the newpapers are saying that it just wont happen. The police would never risk having up to 30,000 angry fans locked outside the ground after they had paid 1,300 euro for tickets. I think FIFA had started to back off the idea too, following some pretty bad press.

Anyway, I guess we'll see!

Thanks

Peter

Peter,

First up, welcome to the forum.

With this talk of ticketing for June, I was at Euro2004 and didn't have any problems at all with tickets that weren't in my or friends name. The Portuguese police aren't known for their fair outlook towards foreigners at football matches (to their own people either!) and I didn't experience any hassle at all. Much better than standing on the terraces at the old ground at Filbert Street.

This year, I will be down by the river, a beer in hand, watching the matches on a big screen. Nice.

Oh, and work wise, should you think Red Box could be of assistance, just yell.

Cheers

tmp, I have a world cup accommodation page, maybe this might be of interest to you - expecting the page to be min PR4 and max PR5, have some heavy links pointing to it because I am wanting people to sign up for advertising.

PM me if interested - we could work out a mutually beneficial advertising arrangement.
