Hi All

I have one product which I am looking to start selling online. What I need is a simple site(1-5 pages) with shopping cart(ability to take all usual payments- paypal, credit cards etc), I would like to do it on a very small budget. My questions are:

1. Do I buy ecommerce software from, say pcworld(dont know if it will do the trick though?)
2. I have made a business site through Frontpage but I am a complete novice at this and dont know if I could easily add a shopping cart without any problem??

Anyone have any suggestions???:|

Cheers

There are sites that give you templates and ability to buy online for a set figure a month, they appear to be fairly easy to set up and get running.

There are a couple of members here that run such sites, but there names escape me.

1. No, definitely not!

2. You need to expand your requirements a bit further:

Do you need an 'online store' or simply 'Buy Now' buttons on a more standard website design?

How many products do you have? What Payment gateways do you use? (Just Paypal?) Would you expect a customer to buy multiple items?

If it is just for one product, then it will be very basic and simple to do. Please send me a PM and I can quote you for this.

If you want to do it on your own, it would be easiest and cheapest for you to just use PayPal Buy Now buttons.

also check with your web space host as most actually provide shopping carts already installed. personally if you can just go with a paypal buy now or subscribe buttons with very simple customisations then you can always add a shopping cart experience once your business grows and needs this feature.

Dottelads has really give you a good option that you can always start with the small things and then you can expand it. This will also help you in a way that till that time you will able to understand the customers taste and preference and their conveniences I think this will be an added advantage for you. I hope this will help you.

lets be honest, if a paypal button sounds like it will do then Magento is definitely overkill

Hello,

You could use our Shop Integrator ecommerce plugins (http://www.shopintegrator.com/ecommerce/ecommerce.html) to place feature rich online shop features in to your website. You just copy and paste the Shop Integrator script in to your web page where you want things to appear, like Add to Basket, Buy Now, Checkout buttons or other things like the Shoppers Basket Total Cost and Number of Items etc.

Our ecommerce plugin solution means you could easily ecommerce enable the Front Page website you've already created, saving you installing and maintaining ecommerce software and your own database.

Thanks again everyone! Think Paypal button is the way to go for this project but who knows maybe Magento for the next one?:)

But heres a question tho, how does payment work when setting up a shopping cart, who deals with the transactions (Like Paypal)? is it your host or the shopping cart dealers, its kind of baffling me (easily done tho:rolleyes:)

Payment merchants like PayPoint.net (for credit cards), PayPal and Google Checkout will deal with money transactions - it's then up to you to fulfill the order. What are you intending to do with the website?

Mmm, Hope ive got paypal right, If I set up paypal on my website then someone wishes to purchase my product through Paypal, I take it they can pay by credit card as well as paypay to paypal account????

Regarding the website, I have made a site with frontpage and will add the code for paypal then host it with a company I have another site with.:)

From what I could see in PayPal, people can pay directly from their credit card - not sure of the whole details. Hopefully PayPoint.net will be able to reply to this thread?

Also look at google merchant account with google checkout. Allows you to take most card payments.

I suspect it would be a bit more manual, but there are ways to automate the process.

I think both Paypal and Google Checkout would be good options to get started, you can offer them both and let your customer choose their preference.

Both are free to setup and you only pay a % on the sale price. Both transfer the customer to their own secure site to process the payment, this means it isn't necessary to have SSL and you don't need to worry about handling card details and all the associated security which goes with that.
