View Full Version : Sponsoring a blog - yay or nay?

To build backlinks and trust in my new site, I am considering sponsoring an industry blog. I have shortlisted 3 blogs and am umming and aahing over what to do (page rank of homepage of each varies from 2-5)
Each blog has its pros and cons - and different sponsorship packages. Sponsoring a blog can cost as little as £15 per month (single link on a single page - which is still yet to be indexed) to £250 for 3 months for an image-based advert on the site. They also allow for sponsored features too, which I guess I could input into to some extent (to ensure search engine friendly content is published).
Anyone sponsor blogs here? Anyone get much from doing so?
Of course, it's not just the SEO benefit I'm thinking of, it's the human exposure too.
Interested to hear anyone's thoughts as I would like to make a decision fairly soon. Thanks all.

What industry is it?
If you ask, they should provide traffic statistics so you can compare exactly how much exposure you will get with each. As it will be targeted traffic you would seek from this, then the site with the higher traffic figures, could just swing it for you.
Adwords image ads and placement targeting might be of use to you as well.

Wedding industry.
I've had stats for 2 of them - waiting for the 3rd.
Funny you mention the Adword image ads, I only noticed these today - these run on content network, don't they? I must admit, I've never had any joy with the content network in any Adword campaigns but guess it could be worth a go....
Campaigns are in their infancy as only been running 2 weeks. So, hard to say at this stage how they're getting on. Wedding purchasing decisions aren't made necessarily on first visit!

Who else sponsors the blogs? Get some feedback from them.

Yeah the image ads will appear on select content sites of the Google network, they will be matched to the pages content. You can run image ads on content sites in both keyword-targeted and placement-targeted campaigns.
This method can prove effective for some sites/subjects, there are more options to refine the campaign once it has accumulated some data, even the placement targeting will just allow you to show the ads on the websites you wish so the options are there to maintain maximum relevancy.
