Hi

We are in a position where our website has been on one platform for around 2 years and currently enjoys page 1 google rankings for various phrases/keywords.

I now need to consider taking the site and its URLs onto another platform, probably Actinic, and rebuild it like for like in terms of category structure.

I am assured that this can be done and by using 301 redirects our current positions can be maintained - near as.

Can any members advise me on the following:

Can this be achieved, in practice, to good effect
What are the pitfalls
Is there a set procedure / method to employ
How does Google and Yahoo ect view this activity
Any short term / long term damage

Any advice or past experience from someone who has gone through this with success or not!!! - would be appreciated.

Thank you

Scott

Hi Scott,

This can certainly be done, but should be done carefully and with a good deal of planning.

If the URL structure is to remain the same, which would be best, you shouldn't need to use redirects. Set up the new site offline first, to test that everything is exactly right.

The only affect will stem from the search-friendlyness of the new platform that you use.

Thanks Nick

Does that mean i can force Actinic to replicate the URLs of the existin cart - which is not actinic based?:|

No problem Scott,

You should be able to specify from within the Actinic interface how you would like the URLs structured, and could match this to the previous setup. Let me know if you need any help.
