Hi,

Im starting an online store selling watches & jewellery and i need some help on creating a web site

I know nothing about HTML and would ideally like a site that can easily be edited by myself, so i found 1 & 1 internet Ltd and used the templates on there e shop, with a monthly charge.

Most if not all ready made e-commerce bundles and templates will allow you to easily add/remove/change any of your product information with hardly any technical skills needed, which is exaclty what i need.

After much trial and error, not to mention cost i have tryed to put my site on search engines but have not had any hits etc, i've also been told that i am using frames and some search engines may have trouble indexing pages that uses frames.

do i need to check out some seo site's or with my lack of experience will i be better off paying for someone to sort out the search engine side. (i'm on a low budget at the moment)

many thanks in advance

It can take quite a while to get picked up by search engines, so don't lose heart yet.

However, using a 1and1 template creates some problems for you that you may not be able to overcome. For instance, the URL for one of your products looks something like this:

https://sslrelay.com/www.1st2ujewellery.com/sess/utn;jsessionid=1543e36ee53f423/shopdata/index.shopscript

Yikes. Search engines will work better with friendlier urls such as:

https://www.1st2ujewellery.com/product/product_page.php

Which is much cleaner. No way of achieving this, I"m afraid, with a 1and1 template.

So, for what you can do within your restrictions - stick to the basics, then sit tight and wait:

- first of all decide what keywords you want search engines to be able to find you under. You've got next to zero chance of coming high under searches for 'watches' or 'jewellery' with this template, so go for something specific. - perhaps related to each product: 'Fire & Dragon Watches' perhaps. Then, make sure the keywords you've identified appear throughout the text on that page.

- make sure every page has a different page title (displayed along the top of your browser window). Currently each page is titled: 1st 2 U jewellery and watches. Call them (if you can within the template) something unique that relates to the products on the page.

- get as many listings in directories as possible ... the more incoming links to your site, the better you will do in search engines

- wait. It can take months before you see search engine traffic.

I know I'm a web designer, so I'm bound to say this, but your site and your business will do infintely better outside of a 1and1 template.

Good luck!

Also, it'd appeat that your entire site is behind a secure (SSL) connection.

You can tell this becuase all the URL's start with https:// instead of http://

Ideally only yyour payment pages would be secured and the rest freely accessible.

Although googlebot does read and index SSL pages, I think you would rank better with non SSL pages.

Think there is URL truncating script somewhere.

here it is http://tinyurl.com/

So that really long one up there ends up the be like
http://tinyurl.com/dqvje instead
