Anyone heard of it?
I've been sent a copy as a potential advertiser. It's a good read if a little heavy on the ads.

Yes we know it - it is a nationwide publication distributed via enterprise agencies

The website is a bit cheap with a lot of deal links. I am quite interested in advertising with them but I would need to see a copy of the mag first.

What made you subscribe without having seen a copy of the magazine?

Hi Lucy,
Pure faith. Guess it's the same as buying a £20 book after reading only a few words of the forward, or buying a car with only a 2 minute test drive. Sometimes we have to follow our 'gut' instinct. I'm sure some have subscribed to yours without first seeing a copy, haven't they? Only yesterday Steve (goldctrsteve) recommended a book to me (E-Myth Revisited, Gerber. M) My trust of Steve saw me purchase the book from amazon 5 mins later. Am I over-trusting? Maybe. But I'm also perceptive enough to see through some other 'marketing' proposals put to us, as you've probably seen from some of my posts.
If I can learn 2 good things from my subs, I'll be ahead. If they're no good, I'll just sell them in 'Time Out.'
cheers, Nigel

Good book, you wont regret it.
Nigel, you mean me saying above that it's a good read didn't influence your decision? : ) I'm hurt!
I think for the price it's worth a gamble. I think I'll ask them to throw in a years subscription if I do advertise with them : )

Hi Everyone...
I've seen Start Your Business magazine all over the place so am suprised more of you havn't seen it?
I am seriously considering advertising my website services in the magazine as I believe they also channel through all enterprise agencies in the country which is where I really want to be seen.
I've done some digging and they say its best to take out advertising nearer their deadline for reduced rates... which is why I'll be approaching them now... ( I'll get them to throw in a years subscription if I do advertise!! *lol*)

Ive also decided to stick in a half page advert in the next edition so hopefully should get a lot more business too...
Ill let you know how it went for me...

Have you checked out the "marketing" section of their website?
Jeezo!
"Branding is like a big iceberg where the tip is 15% and the visual identity visible through for example a logo or the packaging."
"Warm colours as reds, yellows, oranges, pinks and bright blues and greens can convey messages of being modern, innovative, young, funky, vibrant, lively, creative and fun."
Hmmm... fascinating ... now, can you increase my sales?

Ive been in touch with the people at this magazine recently and have to say that they have been really helpful and not the usual "advertise with us coz we are the best" rubbish.
As a result Ive got a subscription too to see what its like and give it a go.
Worth a look everybody.

Very true. I've always felt that Growing Business (we are featured in their VentureDome (http://www.growingbusiness.co.uk/aBJnwtc.html)!) and Business XL and the like, whilst an interesting read they're not really very useful for us smaller companies. SYB seem to have hit th nail on the head and it's pitched at just the right level I think.

aha, my plans for world domination are taking shape.
Now I've got you all to subscribe to the magazine I've agreed to some advertising with them.
You'll soon all be seeing the KashFlow logo in your dreams : )
Jacquis right, nice guys. No hard sell. Not like a certain other magazine whose name I wont mention but are totallly about business. They wasted a lot of my time the other day with their silly sales guy pretending to be the features editor in the news section who doesn't usually do sales so he's not sure what he's doing - yeah right. Very dodgy stuff.

There do seem to be new members joining forums asking questions about this "wonderful" magazine who's email addresses ought to be examined more closely :x

Hes pretty good but charges a bit too much... IM thinking of doing it all myself with a bit of help from a computer software package but i guess there is no substitute for a good accountants knowledge on how to 'effectively reduce' tax...

Someone has registered on another forum today claiming to have "found it recently, in a business advisors office in London" saying how interesting it looked etc etc etc but unfortunately for her, as a moderator on that forum I checked the email address that she registered with and surprise, surprise it was the publishing company responsible for the magazine.
I wouldn't read or advertise in the magazine as a matter of principle as I don't like deception or companies that practice it.

Ive noticed that there are lots of discussions about the magzine on other forums as well.
In fact Ive contacted a few people who claim that the magazine is good etc just so that I know its genuine.. and they appear like bonafide people after having spoken to them on the telephone.
In any case Im going to advertise my website design services in the next edition, and dont really care if someone is championing them in forums as I guess its only good for people like me who advertise!!
Best wishes

Ian, Ive just called a guy called Rick from the magazine and let him know of your comments as I would like to know if this is true or not.
He told me that in all his years of magazine publishing he hasnt heard anything so absurd and that it would be difficult for anybody in marketing to post forum topics considering they are abroad at a conference.
He advised you to check the email addresses actually came from the company and if so, he would be interested in speaking to you directly such that you can shed some light on the matter.
Looks like things are getting heated lol
I guess you have some time on your hands Ian so you might as well do a bit more digging and give him a call? lol
Cheers

Even if it is true its no shock horror ! Thats what is called creating a "buzz". It can be done in a variety of different ways.
Its not like they came online and said "Everyone, if you do one thing before you die - BUY this magazine ! "
Also it does look very interesting and well put together so I guess they were right about that.

If Rick cares to check the Startups forum he will see that an enthusiastic recommendation for this magazine was made by "Winter Homewares" today and his/her email address was publicly visible and was kirsty@gmedia.org.uk.
The same post was made on the Teneric forum this morning by "Sarah Farmsworth" who's email address was also kirsty@gmedia.org.uk
"Sarah" is actually online at Teneric at this moment changing her email address to a less incriminating gmail.com addy but unfortuantely that is shutting the door after the horse has bolted.
It may be creating a buzz but it's also deceiptful and I don't find that deceipt is the best way to get people to part with their money

Ian - you should have joined the police force lol.
You should call them and let them know about this although I cant see this being the end of the world...
Ive had experiences of competitors wanting to make their competition look bad by writing emails from a fake email address which is quite possible here...
I for one think this whole forum thing is pretty funny and certainly provides entertainment to a slow day...
Anyhow I think ive mentioned enough about this whole thing..
Everyone look out for my advert in the next edition :)

P.S Ian - now go and do something productive !! lol
Today I have signed up an asset finance deal that should see a cheque for £3,000 in my bank account by the end of February. I have also tied up a deal with a very high profile website that should generate a lot of enquiries ( and therefore income ) for me and in between I had lunch with a finance company who have increased my commission rates due to the volume of business that I generate for them.
I'll try and be more productive tomorrow :D
