I have a slide on here
http://www.birminghamelectriciansltd.co.uk/
but I'm struggling for ideas of what to do with it, I'm probably gonna have 8 images in total, and I want words to appear over the images as they slide. You get what I mean right
thanks

Hi Massey
I don't see it adding any real value at the moment, its just sort of there.
In the sort of work you do can are able to show before and after pics like..say a builder would? you know the sort of thing..a whole mess of wires in the before pic...a nice neat arrangement in the after pic etc..

Agree. Any images you use need to have a purpose. You need to consider the value of the image to the visitor, how it helps meet their needs, generate a lead or provide evidence of your claims.
Putting text on the images is easy. You will need a different slideshow script and have to play with the CSS but it's not an onerous task.

I know what your saying but i think that will be going a bit over board, I was thinking more along the lines of nice piccys with a bit of flash text saying looking for reliable affordable electricians, we are fully registered nice eic elecs, fully insured
you know all the usual crap
and if I was to sort the page with a nice banner it will be better than the competition sites as they pretty much offer zero benefit to the reader,
but I agree to an extent what your saying

I would question the need to have the slides in the centre of your home page?
I could understand if it was on the right (where you have the "Common Questions")

I had it on the right before and then changed my mind,
my intention was to have words with a call to action at the end hoping maybe they would view the slide think oh right there's the number etc

Put it on slideshare. And use as supplementary to your website instead of on it.

It's not about usage on the server, or can you make slides and add effects on slideshare?

you know all the usual crap
And that's exactly the reason NOT to put it on the site - you don't want to show the 'usual crap' you want something different (and a slide show isn't the answer).
my intention was to have words with a call to action at the end hoping maybe they would view the slide think oh right there's the number etc
And do you really think they are going to sit and watch your slideshow right to the end?

Haha, I like the use of the quote there.
what would you say the answer is that's if you care to elaborate. :)

Massey as you are probably aware I'm FAR from an expert, just offering my thoughts.
If you want to keep the slide show I would move it back over to the right, and have a large headline in its current place.
reasoning - someone types *B*^"ham Elec^*^cian into google...goes to your site and theres a slideshow...they are looking for instant gratification and your headline should give them that (IMO!) they wont want to see sliding pictures.....
yes they could gaze down slightly and see what you offer but I think it would serve better to hit them square in the face with a large headline telling them that they have found exactly what they were looking for.
Also - and perhaps someone else and confirm/deny this as I went through a similar thing and still not sure!...
your site serves up "yourdomain.co.uk/" as the homepage and your inline link in the first text points to "yourdomain.co.uk/index.html"
2 domains with same content (I think) harder to track in analytics and harder for google to work out which one is more important..the / or the /index.html
right...got sidetracked..must go and ask my own question now!
