morals aside for a moment.

But, If I wanted to copy a normal movie DVD, is there a piece of software that will allow me to do it. I mean a normal movie DVD like something you could here from a video shop.

I don't want to rip it, shred it, extract it, compact, shrink it, bloat it, crack it or hack it, and I don't want to wait several hours.

Just put it in and burn a copy. Is this possible?

You would think I would know, but I am not into this kind of thing.

Nope this is not possible, each DVD has a coded encryption and unless you want to go on the net and download dodgy programs to "crack" the dvd then its not possible.

Also you would have to shrink it and do all sorts of silly things to get a copy of it.

Your better off just buying the real thing in the first place.

you can copy it, but not in the way you want. and theres a reason for as I'm sure you know.
you dont necesarily need "cracks" and such, but ther will be a considerable time involved. google is your friend.

Thanks for your help.

I should point out that I am not / was not intending a large scale couterfeiting operation, or even a small scale one. It was more of just a matter of interest.

Thanks for your help.

As you say, morals aside, but yes you can.

DVD Decrypter. It reads the DVD disk you want to copy, takes out all of the protection/decryption and copies the DVD onto any spare hard drive space.

From this point all you need to do is copy the Video_TS and Audio_TS folders onto a new DVD. Nero is ideal for making sure that you copy the files correctly.

For the most comprehensive site around on DVD utilities go to www.doom9.org

Clients occasionally give us materials on DVD for including in their video productions, all above board and we have had to become experts, not only in Authoring DVDs, which we are, but also in retrieving material from DVDs and then converting them without image degradation into a format that will enable us to edit the required sequences into an existing edit sequence. We now do this with great ease…

I hope that helps.

All the best, JR

It's called anydvd

http://www.slysoft.com/en/anydvd.html

This removes all copy protection

The you can use Clone DVD (same site) to copy it - or another burning piece of software like nero etc
