Hi,

I have just received an email from someone telling me I have Modzilla Browsing issues and they attached a zip file. Call me cynical, but these days, I don't trust any emails I don't recognise, so I was wondering if any of you use Modzilla and would be able to take a look for me?

Thank you,

Kate

Ps. This is what the email said:-

Hello,

I noticed whilst browsing your site that there were problems with some of your links, when I tried again with Internet Explorer the problems were not there so I assume that they were caused by me using the Mozilla browser.

As more people are turning to alternative browsers now it may be of help for you to know this. I have enclosed a screen capture of the problem so your team can get it fixed if you deem it an issue.

Kind regards,

It is possible to embed viruses/trojans in image files now so you are right to be cautious. There are viewers that will let you check these things out.

I suggest that you check the source rather than the content. Does it seem genuine? Of course, emails can appear to be from anyone.

Probably the best thing is to check the site with Mozilla yourself. Also, why not ask members of this forum to check the site for you with various browsers. I think you can be more confident of responses you have solicited.

Also, it is rarely necessary to get a screen shot. In most cases they are worth considerably less than a 1000 words and a few bullet points will do a better job.

For what it's worth, the site looks fine to me in Mozilla Firefox (actually, I think it looks terrible but it seems to work okay) and although the markup is very heavy (inefficient) you are using a popular and well respected application to provide your shop.

if you have chance submit it to www.dmscs.co.uk/test.html

It will soon tell you what the file is...

How is your Russian?

The email you received contains a virus (well, worm actually):

gives more information.

Kate, I can view it okay on Firefox, so I wouldn't worry about it. BUT just taking in what JustOne mentioned, you might want to make the links viewable.

Google in particular isn't very good at picking up hidden text, but other search engines could drop you from it's search engine results, as it's seen as spam (blackhat seo)
