Wordpress is awesome, best general purpose and small business website CMS out there at the moment and it is free. Have been playing with the updates coming in version 3.00 (beta version available) and it is getting even better. :) So, yes, it does rock.

Indeed Wordpress does rock, however your theme does not.

Your code is a mess. How many times should you include jQuery? I'd say once! Also your keywords will do more harm than good!

One more, in your Wordpress Admin, go to Settings > Permalinks and change it from the default set-up to custom and use /%category%/%postname%/

Much nicer SEF URL's :)

Wordpress really does rock.

If you have little idea on web design PLUS your budget in getting one is small and you cant afford to go out and get a designer to make you one, then spend a few weeks by learning how to:

1. Purchase a domain
2. Purchase hosting with cpanel
3. Use fantastico for a Wordpress auto-install
4. FTP - so you can upload new theme files to your website
5. Learn how to use admin panel of wordpress

You can find instructions on all the steps above by googling them. After a few months you can easily start to make some really good looking websites just using free worpdree themes.

Take the step up and spend 30-50 gbp (sorry I dont have the pound key on my keyboard) on a paid premium theme then your sites start to look cracking.

Hi

In your admin panel.....

1. click onto theme editor
2. then select header.php
3. before you start editing your code copy and past all the code into a word or into a wordpad document so you dont mess it all up.

Look for navigation section and update the links to the correct URL pages.

Why not just rip out the whole nav and replace with:

<ul>
<?php wp_list_pages('title_li='); ?>
</ul>

This will replace the nav with the page names you create.

Easy.

....but only if you want all your pages listed in the top nav bar. :D

No, easy enough to exclude anything you dont want in there.

<ul>
<?php wp_list_pages('exclude=17,38' ); ?>
</ul>

My advice is to read up on Wordpress security to protect your site from hackers. Maybe getting a good book would help, I recommend 'Digging into Wordpress' to get the most out of Wordpress (link below).

If you are serious about securing your wordpress installations Vaultpress is the ultimate solution (no affiliation) - I am < 15 posts so can't post link but google it if your interested.

Yes - listen to Gav

You need to make sure that you have the latest patches at all times otherwise you will have a site full of viagra links. It can be worth actually spending at least a little to get someone who knows what they are doing to set things up. Just as I wouldn't try to wire in a fused spur.

MarcusMiller

Yup, totally agree. If you have tons of time, then maybe worth figuring things out but if time is money and you are busy pay someone to do what they do and concentrate on what you do well.
