I had a bit of idea yesterday,

currently I have nothing I wish to advertise on leaflets and the newspapers etc

In terms of a web page

from looking at some wordpress sites yu can achieve a nice layout and get a good feel for the site,

I'm thinking of making a wordpress site with sections for plumbing electrics property renovation and concentrating purely on the user and ignoring seo, also I would feel happy using ppc on that site,

And then that buys me time to seo other sites to comfortable positions

so where can I find all the information I ever wanted to know about wordpress?

Thanks

It's not an either/or, you can concentrate on the reader and have decent SEO. When you check it out look at the All in One SEO plugin and the Headspace2 plugin.

As above, Wordpress.org has vast amounts of info. This (http://www.webdesignerdepot.com/2009/09/300-resources-to-help-you-become-a-wordpress-expert/) has a selection which might be helpful to start.

You need to speak to your host to make sure thev requisite databases are set up as the first thing you will need to do is edit a php file with the login details.

And Dawg is correct, seo/usability is all part of the same package, you can't really do one without the other. So instead of wasting time with wordpress why not just fix the main site.

I was thinking of slapping a wordpress together as like a company site with bits of everything we do and gettin some sales copy done etc

But I'm thinking you disagree

Massey, remember the free hosting I mentioned a few weeks ago (http://www.000webhost.com/)? Not that I would recommend them for much else, hwoever if you want to muck around with Wordpress they have an installer for it. So if you muck it up, click the installer and setup a new instance, a good place to practise while you get the hang of it.

Then move to a better hosting package from the chaps who hang around on UKBF once you've sussed it, although it's not that difficult.

Nothing wrong with playing with wordpress but you aleready have a site in the index for your services. If you put up another offering similar then all you are doing is spreading yourself thinner.

But.... if you put the same info on your existing site, boosted the internal linking, worked on the page titles, structures, incentices, calls to action and so on you would make money without spending on PPC.

Anyway, what are you doing in the computer - you should be out the electrocuting people.

I'm looking at starting a blog as well as having a place to display my personal portfolio and stumbled across LimeDomains.com who offer free hosting accounts with the WordPress application. Okay so they're based in the US but so far their customer support have been really helpful :D - I entered my email address incorrectly while registering and so I couldn't get into my account to retrieve my password or change the details. I should have changed the password from the default one straight away then I could have changed my email myself. It wasn't the brightest of days yesterday.

Hopefully, I get to play around with my blog later today when it's all fixed :D

I think a blog is a good way of sharing news and anything of interest to people. I hope you enjoy doing yours.:)

Can't speak for other types of businesses but I've seen quite a few designers and photographers who use a blog (such as wordpress) for their main sites.

I agree, I just feel like the electrician site is missing some thing I need to sort the footer out and maybe get a banner made I'm not sure, but in comparison to the competition sites for bham sparkys I personally think it is better.

I think I'm gonna put a 16hr stretch infront of the laptop tomo.

Who knows what could happen ;)

Which is great however you are unable to install any plugins hence if you want to SEO your blog, as previously mentioned by Dawg, the excellent All In One plugin is essential.
