We all know that even small differences can make the difference between a sale and a customer walking away when we are in online business.

A few weeks ago, I went on a bit of an experiment and started changing sections, pages and the setup of my website and I must say it really has increased conversion ratios.

Compaired to the same amount of traffic that was visiting my site daily before, more now buy.

I thought it would be a good idea for us to all list the things we thing are important when buying from a website?

One major change I made was to cut down on the product descriptions, when I first created the site I thought that long and detailed descriptions would be best, but that seems to be wrong for my product, short and sweet works.

Any other important points on increasing website sales and conversions?

Hi Mark, the site's looking fresher and I think it's loading faster than when we last spoke. Competition looks good too.

Cheers

Urgency.

I am experimenting with KashFlow to suggest that the free trial is only being offered for a limited time to see if this increases sign ups.

Hi Lawrence,

Yesm on your feedback The guys over at Matrixx web hosting and design have been working on the speed on the pageload.

Being on broadband, I did not even notice that it was taking over 1 min for 56K dial up users to view our home page.

I have a bit more work planned which will increase page load even more!

So yes, page load speed is another important point to add to our list.

Fear of loss is the greatest sales tool.

I would have a count down to Valentines day with some sort of message to assert urgency as Duane suggested.

Loss as in missing out?

So if we say "order Now before **th and save"

Or something like that?

yes could do - maybe just a count down would excert enough encouragement.

or a "don't leave it to the last minute"

or "we are reaching full capacity (if you are) for Valentines deliveries order now or..."

Is there a way I can add a counter?

That could be a good feature as we are always counting down to Valentines day, Mothers Day, Easter, Christmas.

Or should I do it manually day by day?

Its a good idea

it's much better without that huge flash file you had, and it is now featuring more products on the homepage...

at this rate by next year I will join your affiliate scheme ;)

glad your conversions are up.
