Yahoo answers will have little, it's probably no-follow too. Lots of people "spam" it with links.

Done but you are leaving a trace on UKBF. This thread is likely to come up on Google when it is indexed for your website search terms.

I just wanna test really, it has a section on market samuri which made me think,

And you cant always get information on things like that without researchin for your self,

one thing i have noticed in the mystical world that is "seo" a lot of people dont know what they are talkin about or what they say has many different meanings,

It will be interesting to see when indexed what happens ,

It didnt let the link you drop go live, is that because you need to have posted over a certain amount?

MASSEY mate - we seem to be doing the same things at the same time, probably learning our SEO from the same sources:D:D

You have to reach a level 2 for your links to go 'live' - even then they are 'No Follow' links.

I signed up to Yahoo answers 2 or 3 weeks ago - you need 250 points to reach level 2 (I think you start at 100) you get a point for each day you visit Yahoo answers, a point for each question you answer, and you get extra points for supplying the best answer.

i think its main benefit is for driving targeted traffic to your site based on your answer, rather than SEO link juice (I'm learning the lingo!)

What might work, indirectly, from an SEO point of view is that The Yahoo Answers page might rank highly for 'Electricians Birmingham' (or whatever) and then sat on top as the best answer is a 'live' (clickable) link to your website. Just a thought!

Jeff

p.s I loved this:

I think that's so true. You ask a question and get 17 different opinions! What I'm trying to do, more and more, is think of ways to test the different opinions, to find out for myself what does and what doesn't work (A bit like what Ali did with his SEO content thread)

No but I know of a Q&A site that does allow you to use your own anchor text in backlinks and dofollows them...

I won't post it on here as there are far to many idiots claiming to be SEO experts that think mass auto blog commenting, web directory submission and high PR backlinks is all SEO is about and will spam the site / abuse the system probably but I'm happy to let anyone know via PM.

I noticed them same people, I need to get more links to my site (280 currently) but I am not gonna "spam" places to get them, as most of them ae worthless.
If you PM the addy, I will take a look see if it fits for me ;)

I think your right ;),

Its dam hard to post a link i know that much, im gonna make an account use it for a few weeks to get it up to what ever level it needs to be at to post,

Like you say worse case yahoo answers ends up floatin around page 1 with a link that wouldnt be to bad, i think i will have to ask the question in a few weeks again as it expires in 4 days,.

Dam yahoo :(

No one can know everything about SEO as search engines are secretive (ish) about how they rank websites. Some say # of links, some say keyworded content etc. It's all down to trial and error, as long as you stay on the white side of SEO, you will be fine.

Don't expect miracles from sites like Yahoo answers and Jeff correctly said, it's a no follow, it may give you another ranking in Google, but is it worth the effort?
The best links are relevant links e.g. websites in your sector.

Haha probs not,

But there is a section in market samuri,

it says promotional high quality backlinks and yahoo answers is in there, which makes me think how is it high quality if its no follow,

And is it no follow, :|

I need evidence, :D

You're all skirting round the edges. It's no good picking up on one SEO 'trick' or another. Like most things webby you can't do one thing in isolation, you need a holistic approach. For Yahoo answers to do any good you need to have a cracking website, already have a decent web presence and be regarded as an expert. Only then will the links bear any fruit, but since they are no-follow there is only an indirect SEO benfit.

Don't need to look for a niche, just to sort out your website. It's a bag of nails at the moment with no real structure. Get some content written and a bit of optimisdation and you won't even need any inbound links.
