I use osCommerce as my CMS but unless you are opening an online shop it may not be of much use to you. (It may not even be much use if you are)
You may get some more appropriate suggestions if you give us an idea of what you want from the CMS

I can recommend Wordpress and Drupal as this is what I use the most. Joomla is also good. If you are not technical then wordpress is the easiest to use. Drupal is a bit more complex. All systems have excellent support communities where if you have a problem I guarantee some one else has also had the same problem.

I would have to agree with Worpdress as the best and easiest. There is enormous online support and heap of plugins to do just about anything you want on the site.
2 years ago I didnt know a thing about webs design and websites and I have made a heap of them now. PM me if you want so I can send you some links ofr m wordpress creations. :D

Personally love Wordpress - it's usually very flexible with little pain to get anything done.
Just rebuilt my science fiction fantasy website, and didn't even need to do any HTML coding (though I did anyway! :) ):

Lightweight = wordpress / Silverstripe / Modx
More functionality = Expression Engine (amazing system) but not cheap.

Drupal hands down.
Joomla is ok for small sites with little scope. But you want a solid Drupal site with a good programmer, ideally.

I'd recommend Joomla, because it's the easiest way to make a site. For this CMS you have a lot of templates as well as plugins for different things. (from security to...)

My personal preference if you wanted to use opensource would be wordpress, Joomla is ok but has been known to be easily hacked. I personally never use opensource CMS for our clients website, we developed our own CMS system.
Wordpress is also great for blogs so you can kill 2 birds with one stone as the saying goes if you want to create a blog to get some content feeds going.
Drupal is not something I have looked at in great deal but heard many mixed reports on it, I think its personal preference, if you have Cpanel hosting with Fantastico you can install and un-install in seconds all of the above mentioned so probably best to see which suits you best.
Hope this helps

Completely agree not to mention WordPress is a lot easier to work with if you are not tech savy than Drupal. I like both for what they are but unless you want to learn php for Drupal, or hire someone it is more complicated to work with. Sometimes just getting the addins to work is challenging.
WordPress is a simple install, simple to customize and simple to operate. Drupal takes more finessing.

It all depends on how much content you will have. If you are going to have lots of content (e.g. tens of thousands of pages, thousands of users), Drupal is the way to go as it's a true CMS platform. But it's not particularly user-friendly and not intuitive at all.
Wordpress is very user-friendly but it's primarily a blog platform. Version 3.0 is about to be launched any day now and it's Wordpress' effort to shake off the "blog only" label by combining Wordpress MU (multi-user). Initial feedback is varied with some people saying the content management facilities don't go far enough to be a true CMS.
I would suggest giving Wordpress a go as it's so user-friendly but if you have bigger plans for your site, you may have to bite the bullet and look at Drupal.
