a while back i wanted to create a webshop selling stylish accessories for kitchens, and so created www.style4kitchens.co.uk

I have come across some really smart products in the past few years, such as tv & audio products, gadgets, lighting etc for the kitchen. although you can buy these online & in shops, i couldnt find anywhere (on or offline) that brought everything together - audio & visual products, gadgets, lighting etc, all specifically for use in the kitchen environment.

i now dont know whether to go full throttle into this or not? The items i would sell would be more for the mid-upper market (maybe those spending £10-15k upwards on a kitchen) - if you were spending that much, would you consider some really stylish & sleek accessories from such a shop?

examples of products are: flip down tv's, built in tv's, radios, dvd players, lighting, light shelves - with the emphasis on style, not just anything i can find to sell.

as my services are business-to-business (designing kitchens) i could use my design clients (showrooms & studios) to help promote the webshop in return for comission or incentives (for example).

any thoughts would be great. thanks!

Quick answer, I'm afraid: HELL, YEAH! I damn well want a TV on my kitchen wall if it costs that much. My mate has one and it's fantastic. Well worth going around there in the morning purely for that.

I really like the idea, by the way - I hope it's really successful for you. Why not have a showcase, like with the future house, the future kitchen that splits items into separate categories? For example (I imagine this as a Flash) it has the fridge, mouse moves over it, it has a load of information, like how it orders new products when the weight is below a certain level, and then has a TV, which has freeview built in etc etc.

I'll be in the market for a new kitchen in the next month or 2.... send me a brochure! And Magnet & Southern Kitchens do all that and I am definitely buying a dropdown tv for my new kitchen.

i like that idea. how could that be created without costing the earth?

it could be a great attention grabber to promote the shop and get it off the ground.

Hi Anne,

Magnet do one or 2 Tv's, but apart from that just the normal kitchen stuff really.

shop around for the flip down tv if you do get one, they load the price up something wicked! i may even have the webshop fully stocked by then so could help you out with a few more options!

Woops, sorry Mark. was messin' around so much I forgot the serious stuff.

I don't know whether the idea is totally innovative; but it has to be a winner. Many people's lives are ruled by TV, DVD, internet etc, and you're catering for that need.

From another perspective, anything we can do to keep a woman in a kitchen has to be seen to be advancing the harmony in marriage (or other partnership). Of course it is there also for those of us who do the dishes annually.
Cheers, Nigel

lol!! thanks nigel.

you are right to say that our lives are ruled by various gadgets, and now of course the kitchen is in most cases the 'hub' for family & entertaining!

can i interest you in a dishwasher?

I'll have a dishwasher, the one i've got at the moment moans too much

I love the kitchen TV thing and think an outdoor TV would be even better. Imagine watching corra on the patio in the summer :D
