Here's an interesting video where Andy Edmonds talks about a test where "Add to Cart" was tested against "Buy Now" and the winner varied according to the day of the week:

The results are probably something to do with the confidence that people have in the product and their expendable incomes. If you looked further into it, the results would probably reflect shopping patterns, change when people are paid and when bills are due, and maybe even change dependant on the time of the day.

However I think if your website were to change between the two over a matter of days, I think many people would pick up on this and start to think something odd was going on and question the site.

Clearly they were sceptical, which is why they ran the test for so long.

But, if the numbers say there's a difference - and if you can apply some logic to explain why that's the case - then there's a difference.

The numbers don't lie.

I am not saying the numbers lie at all, I am just saying if you implemented a site that changed the links on a daily basis I think they would be suspicious. So I guess its a case of deciding whether those Tuesday or Thursday sales are more profitable!
