Hello Everyone,

Most of you know about the business I run.
(personalised roses of those that don't, we actually add a message onto the petals of fresh roses and deliver as unique gifts throughout the uk)

I have been asked a few times now by customers if they send plain roses i.e with no message on the petals.

Now I have a little dilemma...

I know that some people instantly fall in love with our unique personalised roses and these are the people that end up as customers and other just prefare the plain beauty of roses as gifts.

We have our own niche by offering personalised roses, no other online florist offers them, so thats our big selling point. There are hundreds of online florists.

I am thinking of adding a section for PLAIN ROSES only, they will be cheaper for the customer as they are not personalsied, so take less time to produce and pack.

Now the question is will by adding these plain rose option, possibly increase sales as customers that may have left out site because they only wanted plain roses may then buy with us?

Or should I just stick to the personalised roses and nothing more?

Feedback please....

If it no extra work or hassle and won't cost a lot to add to the site and you think you will pick up sales you would otherwise loose then you should do it.

Once people have tried your service they could go on to order the personalised ones. Also they may buy more than one bunch at a time and if they want some plain too, they can't at the moment.

One more thing - if they have a lot of girl friends they can buy one bunch with I love You on it and then make it go further by buying plain to pad it out!!

I could see white and red roses with printing on the white but leaving the red plain. Can you do this now?

Thanks Caroline,

Yes, customers can have mixed colours and on most orders we do say 6 with a message and 6 without (this looks nicer in my opinion as its just nice and not too much)

I am trying to think of the best method of making it clear that customers can also order plain roses, without complicating the order process.

Hi Mark. I would certainly broaden your product base. There's no conflict of interest, in fact it's a quite natural 'add-on.' I could see your turnover increase because of this. I mean, one could send the 'personalised' roses to their girlfriend and the plain ones to their wife

You could also use the plain ones as a marketing tool with special offers during quieter times.

all the best, Nigel

Selling the plain roses to would be a great marketing tool of upselling, even when they click to have just plain roses at something like £20 add a caption that says- for only £7.00 extra add your personal message, so even though they clicked on plain roses, 60% of people would still end up buying personised roses :D

simply supplying demand mark.

If enough custmers ask for the product then i tihnk the writing is on the wall as well as the rose as it were.

If you know what i mean :-)
Esp wth valentines day now fast approaching

I don't see any harm in adding more options. More options equals better chances of securing a sale. It's just like me selling a pair of jeans - the customer might like them but are not going to buy if it's not in their size :-)
