Hello,

Does any one have any experience with verifying peoples identity online? Is there any good providers who offer this service?

I noticed the other day a website dug out my credit report and asked me for information on that to verify who I was. Not that I want such an indepth verification system in place, but would like some basic checks on address and ensure the person is who they say they are automatically via API's.

Any one have any experience with this?

Thanks,

James Morris

Verifying identity is a tricky problem. You can check the address using a web service such as Unified Software's AddressVal, but linking a person to an address is a bit more difficult.

There are a few Electoral Roll lookup services out there, but they all suffer from the 40% opt out rate from the ER.

A couple of companies such as CallCredit and Experian have tried to tie together the electoral roll and address validation, but their products will still have the ER opt out problem AND be eye-wateringly expensive.

Cheers
