Hi , This is my first post so please be gentle. I work in carpet and bed retail and would like to go national. My question is what is the most cost effective way of setting a website up, I dont have a large budget and was wondering if anyone had any good ideas. I was even considering advertising locally for some body with the right website, seo skills to start a partnership. Thanks James.

Hi,

Please give us an idea of the following as this will help for better answers and help guide people to put forward a solution which fits you.

Your level of ability is with the web and web page creation
How much work you would do yourself if this keeps the costs of building a website down
The number of products are you looking to sell and the average price of the majority of your products
If you have any thoughts about how you would want to process payments, for instance It must be using your current business banks payment processing solution, e.g. HSBC
Cheers

You could try Sheffield Design Services or Printmeit.com and see what they could do for you. Tell them Simon @ Total Web Solutions sent you, if you do contact them.

We would happily put together a proposal for you so you have an idea of cost. PM for details or Google "Arkom Creative Technology"

Hi, James. Drop me a PM with your requirements (do you need E-Commerce, etc?) and also let me know if you have a budget in mind and I'll get a quote to you.

Regards,

Graham

Hi James,

As you have most likely found out there are loads of ways to sell online. Some of the options open to you are : -

Ebay - a good first step when selling online. Low start-up costs and a big group of buyers. If the product sells well you then can invest in a more professional site with confidence. I know in your post you asked to setup a website but this can be a good first step to selling online

Of-the-self ecommerce site - I offer this service with Clockwork Bears ecommerce website but there are other sites like ekmpowershop and magentocommerce, to name a few. This will give you your own site and all the admin features 80% of retailers need to sell online. The cost of these sites can be free, small monthly fee (like Clockwork Bears), or a one of fee. You then will have to spend money/time marketing your site to get visitors there.

Bespoke ecommerce site- This is for people offering something that isn't covered by the of-the-self sites. I would guess this isn't what you need as it is the highest cost and you don't seem to be after bespoke functionality

Hope this helps
