80% of the task takes 20% of the effort, conversely 20% of the task takes 80% of the effort...
It's used normally to describe the effort (or anything else), to get something finished.

Pareto's rule
can be applied to many things such as
80% of sales from 20% of customers (bad thing)
80% of sales from 20% of stock
80% of flavour fom 20% of crisps (normally the crushed 20% at the bottom of the packet)

There so many things you can apply this to within your business to help it run more efficiently.
We try to look at which products in the shop deliver the most profit. If you know that say 30% of your product range is delivering 80% of your profits then that leads you to question why bother with the remaining 70% of your range? You are spending time and effort on these profits yet they deliver very little.
There are some excellent books to be had on how to apply the 80/20 rule to business and also to your personal life written by Richard Koch.

It's amazing that some people never fail to show others how narrow minded they are
Generally prefaced by the phrase
'I'm not a racist but...'
'I'm not homophobic but...'

Honestly, you people take yourselves far too seriously!
I make a gag about gays, and suddenly I'm a homophobic bigot? Honestly, it beggars belief! It's this sort of PC nonsense that makes the UK a ridiculous place at times!

Would that mean that 16% of statistics are fictitious all of the time?
