Ok guys, if you look at the URL of the page you are viewing whilst browing these forums you will see that all the browsing pages for threads etc are now search engine friendly ;)

I expect to see the googlebot crawling these forums heavily soon, but if anyone who has a high traffic site wants to help it along please feel free to link to these forums to entice Google along ;)

Excellent...

I was wondering whether the 'mark all topics read' has anything to do with the change. I used it earlier today and it worked and only just now it doesnt.

Looking at the way the mod for the search engine friendly bits works I wouldn't be surprised if it broke the mark all threads read link - sorry you cant have it all ;)

Hi Richard,

just a thought,

instead of

http://www.ukbusinessforums.co.uk/ftopic9058.php&highlight=

would

http://www.ukbusinessforums.co.uk/topic/9058/topic-tital-goes-here.html

be better.

This is how we have done many sites and it seems to have been an effectivbe way of folling the engines that the page is truly static.

SEO people jump in!

D

PS http://www.linkpsonsor.co.uk has a link to here on there, hope this helps.

Does this mean now, what ever we type now, can be picked up on google?

Yes it does but it also means that when Google has spidered all of the pages that it will have collected over 9,000 links to your site ( two links per post) generated in the five months that you have been a member here.

You'll need the SEO experts to tell you whether that is a good thing or not.

Thanks Ian,

We'd all better start writing more business stuff then

Writing things like BUSINESS HELP, STARTING IN BUSINESS etc
(Is it better in capitals for spiders?)

Hi Cruz,
I did look at the mod to put the topic subject as the page name, but it was a lot more work and I didnt have time to read how to do it and then do it, considering I'm upgrading this forum in a couple of months anyway!

Looks like you might have a few duplicate content issues though.

/sutra63642.php, /sutra63476.php and /ftopic9057.php are identical pages. And I'd expect many other 'sutra' pages point to the same thread - depending on how many posts there are.

It probably won't affect many people here but I have noticed that since this modification was carried out this site will no longer work with the palm proxy server. It is a bit of a pain for me because when I am out and about I use a Palm Tungsten T3 to keep in touch.

Fingers crossed the mod brings good things to all :)

Meanwhile the UKBF is top of google for the search phrases uk business forum, and business ecommerce forum and 4th for business chat forum (which it should really be ranked 1st for)
