Website opens the floodgates for discussion

THE designer of a new website hopes it will become a hotbed of discussion about Swindon issues.

Matt Kerry has launched the Swindoner website.

Among the town-based topics, there are forums for discussing Swindon Town FC and the controversial new university site near Coate Water.

Matt, 29, came to Swindon three years ago from Oxford and works as a software developer.

Part of his inspiration came from the Advertiser letters page.

He said: "That page always seems very popular and has lots of different opinions and it shows there are lots of issues that split opinion in the town.

"I thought it would be useful to have another place where anybody can come forward with their opinion.

"Hopefully we'll have some healthy debate.

"I think absolutely anybody would be interested in this.

"Hopefully we can get some people high up in Swindon, maybe councillors, to join in.

"But this really for absolutely anybody, whether you live here or not."

Another local man, Alex Tew, of Cricklade, recently hit the headlines when his website milliondollarhomepage.com at first earned him a million dollars and then was targeted by extortionists.

Mr Kerry, who lives in Old Town, said: "I'm not expecting to become at dotcom billionaire and I think Alex Tew's idea is a bit more original than mine.

"Perhaps he would like to sign up as a user on Swindoner.com "His idea is brilliant but mine is more of a community website. I just hope it has a fraction of the success he had."

I sent them an email last week, a reporter phoned me on Saturday afternoon, a photographer came to my house on Sunday and the article appeared on the Tuesday!
