I hope that i can get help here as ive had little success on other forums, It seems to be a bit of a difficult question.

I’ve been seriously considering going down the road of retail. I am considering running my own computer game shop one day in the UK, Selling games, Consoles etc.

About how much would i be looking at to start up something like this? or does anyone know of any good books or websites where I can get more information and a better understanding of retail??

I would just like to see if it is at all possible for me to do and whether i should consider going down the road of retail.

Thanks for any help.

Think you would need to work out the cost of renting shop space, cost of purchasing stock, cost of PDQ's tills and other stuff for completng transactions, once you work out your costs thenf actor in some emergency cash you should get rouhg idea of how much money you need.

You should go and visit your local Business Link who give free sessions on setting up in business and your local Chamber of Commerce. There may be some local business support groups who will provide you with a mentor free of charge to guide you.

Not sure on the games side, but I know in music shops a lot of their goods are sale or return, if this is the case, it will of course make your life a whole lot easier, Im not all that into games tho I do play from time to time, but off the top of my head I could probably come up with about 10 newish games. 10 games multiplied by say 5 - pc, mac, playstation2, psp, xbox = 50. you cant stock just 1 of each, so say maybe 3 of each = 150. retail price of a new game, between £30 and £50 ish so say £40. 150 * 40 = £6000 of stock, and I'm sure you'll agree, 10 games isnt a lot to stock, add more games, consoles, accesories and wow you got a lot of money there.
Your venture will need a LOT of thought indeed, and even if items are available on terms, I would imagine you need a fair bit of money to put in.
