I am new to the whole online website for money business..I have a Masters Degree in Computer Science and know how to code in many languages..but dont have websites for my portfolio..because i work for city hall and do most of my coding internally..not on websites..how would i market myself

Highlights:
• JSP, Servlets, Struts, Java, PHP, Perl, HTML, XML
• Database, PL/SQL, Oracle, JDBA
• GUI Interface Programming Using JAVA (AWT, Swings)
• Networking and Distributed Systems, Client-Server, JINI, JNDI
• C/C++
• More than 5 years in web applications and more than twelve years in software development

Education
Indiana University, Bloomington (August 1999, May 2001)
MS in Computer Science, GPA=3.8/4.0

Coursework

Graduate:
Advanced Operating Systems, Virtual Reality and CAVE Programming, Networks and Distributed Computing, Graduate Independent Study, Advanced Data Base, Software Engineering, Algorithm Design and Analysis, Issues in Distributed Systems

Undergraduate (Selected):
Applied Mathematics, Numerical Methods, Probability, Programming Languages, Mathematical Statistics, Statistical Inference, Applied Statistics, Differential Equations, Econometrics, Complex Analysis,
Selected Projects

1. Developed a web based application named HelpDesk to handle the different requests of City of Bloomington of ITS needs and problems so that can be processed and handled by User Support Group. The application was completely designed and developed by myself using JAVA servlets with Oracle backend database. The application provides search engine, reports capabilities, and email service to provide the users the feedback about their request and informs the ITS members about the problem/request when the request is assigned to them.

2. Developed a web based application to facilitate the operations of processing Housing Rental Permits for the property owners in Bloomington City by the Housing & Neighborhood Development Department. The applications tracks all the steps needed to issue these permits starting from the owner’s request, inspections, follow-ups, billing, etc. The system includes an extensive search engine and reports. Totally developed by Java servlets and Oracle as the back end database.

3. A web based computers hardware and software inventory system written in struts, JSP and Servlets. Handles all the basic inventory operations, search, reports, bills.

4. Worked on projects involving enhancing a prototype OS called Nachos as part of my Advanced OS course. The following features were developed:
UNIX like System calls, added support for multithreading and multi process tasks, added a virtual memory system, developed a minimal Distributed file system. All projects involved extensive coding in C++.

5. Automated 3D Grid Adaptation, as my project for graduate independent study class and implemented in the Lab for Computational Geodynamics (LCG) as part of my research study. Computational part is written in C++ and the GUI part in Java.

6. Software Engineering, the proposed project is to enhance the Data Scope package used in seismology to handle more one seismogram at a time and provide the means to study a bunch of seismograms that are related to certain events such as earthquakes and explosions. For more details about this project and up to date information follow this link. The project consisted of the whole cycle of developing a software product for a real client. Starting with requirement specification, functionality, design, coding, testing, installation and documentation.

7. A web-based LDAP browser; a set of Servlets to browse an LDAP server that provide the user with dynamic HTML pages of the LDAP directory tree starting from the top and giving the user the option of navigating in the tree and checking the attributes of the contexts. A simple search engine was also included. Tomcat apache was used as the web server.

8. Instant Message Service using Remote Method Invocation Protocol (RMI) based on the Simple Object Access protocol (SOAP) and on a simple distributed event model using Java XML, and C++.

9. A federated system of servers which will be used to "broadcast" events over a wide area. It is also a study of simple routing in a dynamic network using an LDAP server. It consisted of clients sending events to other clients through its favorite server.

10. Java-Spaces like framework on top of a more traditional distributed computing framework, implements a remote method invocation using polling to replace long calls. The project is based on problem generator that post problems to be solved in the space where the workers can find and take to solve and post the answers in the space where can be
grabbed by interested clients.

If you need a website made, I am the guy your looking for

It seems your quite over qualified to just make websites for clients. The most you'll need are php/mysql/xhtml/css. Even if ya get into the more advanced stuff you'll never really get to really use all your skills, i can really see you getting bored just chuckng up sites for people.

I'd suggest you take all the info, put it onto CV format and put it on all the job seeking websites. Apply for a few jobs and see what happens.

Hi webmasster. Fancy becoming a "querk"?!

I am currently about 5/12 the way through my computer science degree, and am in the process of concocting a business proposal to submit to like-minded students at the Open University.

I do not intend to visit any interview rooms when I graduate, so I want to try and form a team of about four or five good people who have their own "quirks". That is, I want to form a band whose members each have a range of skills, but are each interested in a certain aspect of computing.

For example, I have a range of skills built over the last 5 years, but I have recently become interested in network programming with the C++ library ACE (Adaptive Communications Environment). I am willing to invest in enough self-study in this area so the team will be able to offer a platform-independent networking facility for distributed applications.

I believe that a very successful business can be built on sound computing and mathematical fundamentals such as those you have learned about. I would very much like to discuss this further with you.

By the time I graduate in 2008, I would like to have a software development business up and running. Over the next two or three years I want to build a couple of applications which are useful to businesses, and which they will purchase licences for.

After 2008 I would like to start punting for contract work from meduim and large businesses, and also governments. I believe that if someone supplies quality work and takes the time to establish a reputation, then profits will follow naturally.

Give me a shout if you would like to discuss this further. I'm gonna do this anyway, and you sound like just the type who I'de like to collaborate with.

Jacqui. I just clicked the "Find all posts by webmasster" link in webmasster's profile, and found only three messages in *two* threads - not five. As far as I can see, this is only the second time he's posted his qualifications.

Since I don't read the introductions forum, I'm glad he posted here because it could be good for my future. :)

Well I'm prepared to forgive him because he sounds like one of those poor, forlorn academics wishing to enter into the cold, harsh world of web-bizniss - just like me! :) And at least he's not trying to rip anyone off with some shonky product.

Maybe he's been writing the web more than surfing it. In that case he wouldn't be too familiar with netiquette, including cross-posting, which I admit can be very annoying.

Perhaps the moderators could consider giving newbies a warning about cross-posting when they join up.
