Hi,

Firstly, I don't know much about SEO.

I am signing up with a US based company for a new website.

It's a 6 month project.

Because I raised concerns over reduced search ranking due to it being hosted on a US server the company has agreed to give me a dedicated UK server.

The only condition is that for the initial 6 month, during development, the site will be hosted on their US server and will move over to the UK server in August/Sept.

My question is this:

I've read it takes time for Google to index the site, so I want to be using the 6 month period for developing and uploading my products while also doing whatever I need to do to get indexed properly.

If we do all this on the US server, and then move over to the UK server will this mess everything up with the search engines.

Also - how do you think the company wil go about buying, installing and managing a dedicated UK server from the States. I'm guessing it will physically be located in the UK. I've asked the company and they said it will be in London.

Is it common for companies to have servers and manage them from afar?

Or will they use another company to look after the server here?

Thanks in advance for your input.

Hello,

After the server change I think it will be only a matter of couple of day for site propagation from new IP, it should not face any major loss , Infact if your are targeting UK market it will add up to your site performance.

Regarding Managed servers in UK, remote server management is possible from any location, so its not necessary that someone should be physically present next to your server in UK.

The US company wont be managing it. The UK company will.
The US company will just be passing instructions for you as a 3rd party.
