Whats the best way to implement a points reward scheme and the software to do it?

EXAMPLE:
When a customer buys Product X they get Z amount of points which can later be redeemed against another purchase.

You can look into affiliate softwares - close to what you want to achieve. Instead of giving commissions you'd give rewards.
