Hi guys

Wonder if you could advise.

I am looking into getting some antipricacy protection for my courses. This is to say adding the files to some like instal shield.

i have been looking at a whole series of options for doing this, but nothing seems to do the trick below £300
Is there a cheaper for of anti piracy software out there which could be used?

Very big issue, Installshield doesnt protect piracy, you could look at the methods already inplace such as safedisk but its a lot of trouble on your part to implement, I havnt seen your software but I assume (maybe wrongly) there are several video clips and such, what would be stopping someone just copying the contents of the cd to the hard drive or simply using the clips.
That said, your target I assume will be novice users so maybe a simpler form of protection may be all thats needed, how about them mail off a "key" you could get this perhaps from the computername the software is installed on, a bit of basic encryption, mail you the key, you then provide an unlock key, but again, if someone wants to crack that, they will.
Just a couple of thoughts for now. Maybe check out some of the sites that deal with getting past copy protection - might give you some ideas.

ok, the vids i use are in exe format, if this helps?

i have seen software which installs it, but i would like something that offers the need of a serial key

This is what i am after? Most egs i have seen want up to £300 for this
Which i think is a bit much

so your cd has some exes or one exe ? do you just run the exe and on pops the video/tutorial or whatever? If thats the case, what is to stop someone just copying them over from cd to a freinds machine?
Doing a bit of encryption and providing a key, for which you provide an unlock key is pretty easy, BUT not ideal if you sold 1000's or you would be generating keys all day long! if you did use that method, that would work pretty well. Can you post more details of the directory structure of the cd. I did some very basic protection some time ago similar to what I have mentioned here, not rock solid - if someone wants to crack it they will - the likes of Sony invest thousands in copy protection but playstation games are still readily available for a few pounds each on a cdr.
I'm off to bed now but will be back tomorrow. By the way, you might want to look at licensing prices for demoshiled and such - not cheap if I recall but post more details and we'll see.

I have used this product in the past - it *may* confuse your basic learners..

http://www.clicklocker.com

Also brand your tutorials (I mean in the actual tutorials) and maybe even start them with a piracy message.

Hope this helps,

this seems very good for protecting online content.
I also need to protect my CD ROMS.
These work via html that auto runs.
The user click the link, this points towards an exe file which contains the course.

Any ideas?

The way it is now, as I mentioned, all the user has to do is copy the exes over and then run them, you would need to look at either the solution that matrixx showed, or code some protection yourself, do these exe's actually install anything or do they just run? The software matrixx mentioned aparantly can be used with any type of file, it has a trial, have a play.
