I did something a bit unusual yesterday, I'd be interested to know what you think as it's not my usual style.

Strange - when I saw it I thought 'scream' too......but I can't say why.

I guess it does remind me a bit of the scream. I think it's the pale creepy face!

What does anybody else think of it?

Yes, claire

Very screamish to me...

What you called it?

I could get my friend, Professor Rhodes, the recently appointed Dean of Art at Sydney University to have look if you like?

It's not my cup of tea at all I'm afraid and I agree it is very like The Scream - I think it is the swirls in the sea and the single elongated figure with only a couple of exagerated features.

I'd love any comments from anybody arty, silly

Hi Claire,

not sold on the maiden, but the swirls of the sea are nice, I feel that a 'sea' only painting would be nice.

When I sell a few more links I will get you to do a swirly one for me.

Is it for your gallery, or your new avatar?

Maiden of the Sea is very apt; my first impression was of the sea, with a blow-up doll wallowing about the churning waves

Cheers, Nigel

It's my painting of the month. I liked your comments Nigel until I got to the blow up doll bit! LOL

If it makes you feel better, I didn't think of the Scream at all.

clairemackaness

What did you think?....load of old rubbish, inspirational, beautiful, creepy, wavey?

Coding Monkey

Well, art being art, it's all subjective, so it's not really my preference on style. I do like the colours, though. And yes, I'd use the word wavey. I'd like it without the face and focusing more on the waves, but I work in graphic designer, which is an area where you should change things for your audience, whereas art is another area of design that...well, isn't the same.

I dont know mac, I try to paint what my customers want and seeing as both you and crus like the waves, thats enough feedback to say perhaps I should do something swirly.

What about this one?

Sorry, that should have been "change things for your maximum audience".

That's better. This is my favourite piece of yours, because of the colours:

I thought of The Scream as soon as I saw it.

As well as the swirly background, the way the hair wraps around the face is similar to the hands on The Scream.

Rotate it 90 degrees and it's a poor likkle bunny wabbit caught in the lava of a volcanoe eruption.

Warp on Warp is a personal favourite of mine. It was my first commission piece and was commissioned by a man who saw some of my work on ebay. He had a digital image he had designed called warp. He asked me to paint it, so I did and hence the name warp on warp.

He was very sweet as I did not know how much to charge so he suggested I listed it on ebay and he promised to bid for it. In the end I think it sold for about £80 and I only started the bidding at £20.00.

I wish I could find the original image, but the guy is no longer a registered user on ebay.

Nice story for you all.

I too thought 'scream'. I'd be interested to hear the process ... did you start out thinking 'I'm going to draw a maiden in the sea', or do you think ... 'well, let's start with a bit of blue wavey goodness, and see where it goes'?

Just me being ignorant of art process, and curious, that's all.

I do like the colours and the wavey-ness, but the figure is not really convincing enough for me. Her features (eyes / mouth) seem a little 'stuck on' or too simplistic.

Keep on posting your new pieces though - it's always nice to see them!

This will make you laugh. I saw the painting in a tiny piece of natural paper that makes up part of my painting Ariel (in my shop). The piece of paper is approx 6cm x 4cm and it jumped out whilst I was watching an episode of desperate housewifes!

Can you see it?

aahh. Inspiration strikes everywhere. I was playing football in a beat up sports hall last Thursday evening and low and behold got the colour schemes (and border effect) for a project I'm working on from the beaten up 1970's decorating inside the hall!

Perhaps there's a new thread there somewhere ... 'weirdest source of inspiration'!
