Hi,
Over the last 3 - 4 days I have not been able to log onto UKBF - I thought it may have been that the site was down, but I can see that there have been postings on those dates. Haven't had a problem with any other site, is it likely to be my computer or is there another problem here?
Thanks,
Anne. :D

OK,

1 thing thats always worth checking is the cache size in IE.

If its too high then you can get speradic timeouts, probably not this, but get it out the way first.

Tools > Internet Options > Temporary Internet Files > Settings Button

Then set the 'amount of disk space to use :' setting to between 1 and 100mb depending on your particular usage (eg bigger if you surf a lot of flash, music, video sites)

This is a good tip for all users as can effect the performance of IE irrespective of connection.

Thanks crus, looking at my settings - they were on 1200 ?? - haven't got a clue why, but now I've changed it to 50mb - I can assume this was the problem. - thanks. :D :D

Hi Anne,

not necessarily the problem, but 1.2gb is a lot of data to sift before trying to get a page from the web.

ISP's regularly set this figure to silly amounts to reduce the bandwidth use on their connections.

Keep an eye on it, I jope this solves the probelm for you.

Crus is right, all the default settings for IE are way too high if you have a broadband connection. I don't use IE but in Firefox the equivalent is set to only 2Mb.

If you still have problems you should try deleting your cache - Temporary Internet Files, and maybe your history as well.

Hi,
Looking on her laptop, the only thing that I can see is msn messenger.
I have changed the setting to 100 - should this be ok - it appears to be alright?
thanks,
anne :D
