Just wanted to know if people listen to music or the TV while they work.

I can not listen to anything while I am working, mainly because I am on the phone all day anyway. But iI find it really hard to concentrate if the radio is on.

My flatmate says he can not work without music.

What do you do? Also what distracts you from your work?

No music in the day job, but do like to listen to it at home.

What bugs me though is music in an office thats just a tiny bit too quiet to actually hear. I find myself straining to listen to it and then loose all concentration.

I love to listen to hay house radio or classical music, even while talking to clients on the 'phone.

Everyone's on their iPods at school! What I hate is when they have their burning people so loud that everyone in the class can hear it! :x!

I absolutely CANNOT concentrate with music on in the background!
It doesn't bother my partner though and as we often work in the same room it can cause a problem ;)

Though I bet your partner has better taste in music than these lovely teenagers. Sounds like they've tied someone down, pulled their fingernails out and recorded the screaming !

Yeah, I have to have house music or techno while I'm working. I need a good rythym to dig holes to!
Cheers, Nigel

I have to have music on. If it were up to me it'd be Drum 'n' Bass all day long, but I have other people in the office so we end up having the same 20 or so MP3s on repeat - mostly 'urban' type stuff like R'n'B, etc.

I like the radio on in the bakery, sometimes like it when i'm painting, depends on my mood. Don't like it when on the computer, I find it hard to concentrate.

Silence drives me nuts!

I've gotta have metal music playing to keep me motivated. Otherwise I tend to drift and waste time.

Also, I am a metal DJ and so I use it to keep up to date with the latest things RAWK \m/

Well I must admit we do like most of the same music and I would normally listen to it and you are right it isn't anything most teenagers would appreciate eg Dylan!

I love having music on while I work ... I have a great pair of those 'noise reduction' headphones from BOSE ... stick them on, put on a little Tom Waits, or Jolie Holland, and I'm away ... productive and relaxed! (didn't used to be like this ... all through school / university, I couldn't concentrate with music at all)

Classical music whilst i work is great although the helicopters don't have much of an in flight entertainment system.

I am still in awe of the listen again service offered by BBC Radio.

Its so simple, yet so effective, allowing a wide range of music to be consumed whilst working which otherwise I would have missed.

Great work BBC

Nope - no chance. I did English and Music at Uni, so if there's anything on I find I can't ignore it - my old lecturer pops up in my head and starts shouting "listen to those lovely diminished sevenths!" in a strong Welsh accent. Not the kind of thing you need when you're trying to write anything.

Have to have music on, mixture of hip hop some metal and some chart tunes.

Rachael nothing wrong with LBC, I was brought up on it from birth it's always on in our kitchen, can be very entertaining!

I love listening to Chris Moyles on radio 1 BEFORE I get to work, it really makes me laugh and cheers me up for the day ahead. I listen to chilled out music in the shop, its supposed to encourage people to browse a little longer. At this time of year I need music to get them in the blooming door first!
