The Channel Islands are not in the UK or the EU, so VAT does not apply.

Hi trixie,

Are your customers business or consumer and what sort of value orders are you handling?

It is b2c and the average ordervalue is GBP75 (inc VAT). I know Channel Ilsand residents do not have to pay VAT I am just unsure is tehre any paperwork I will need to fill in?
Thanks for your comments!

There is no paperwork that I'm aware of... the EU sales list only applies to EU sales, and as mentioned above, the Channel Islands are not in EU.

VAT is an utterly absurd system.

You do need to keep proof of export, eg the paperwork from the courier.

That can be difficult if you're selling an item by electronic download (as we do) :)

Its why I think VAT law is such a mess - it complete fails to take account of the advances in technology of the past 20 years. You can't rely even on IP addresses to be reliable - I spend a lot of time in our office in Dubai, but frequently I'm connected to our UK network (so show up as a UK IP address).
