My current partner was in business as a sole trader with VAT registration for 2 years. Recently we joined together and registered our company as Private Limited company.
I need advice if we can transfer the same VAT registration (used by my partner earlier) to our new company? If so how and any benefits in doing so.

Possibly.
I've certainly transferred a registration, from a Partnership to a Ltd company, but I'm not sure of HMRC rules exactly.
Why not ask them?

Hi Hari
Whether you'll be able to transfer the VAT number depends on whether or not your partner’s old business has been transferred to your new limited company as a going concern. If it has then subject to certain conditions you can transfer the number across but if your partner has simply ceased trading as a sole trader and started a new venture with you as a limited company then you won’t be able to transfer it over.
You’ll need to notify the Revenue within 30 days of the transfer using form VAT 68 which can be downloaded from the Revenue’s website. There are a load of guidance notes on the form which should answer most of your questions about the process.
