Just had an idea and looking at putting it into practice.
Would basically be to take away some peoples used items - similar to what charities when taking old clothes and stuff but without taking their share - basically stuff unwanted by people.
However, council do a similar thing but it's not well publicised!
Could i advertise it and do my own collection do you think? Any licences etc needed?!!

Hi Simon,
You'll definately need Public Liability insurance.
How can you make this work, most old people wouldn't pay for a service like you propose, surely. PM Jayne and ask her
Cheers, Nigel

No, i won't charge.
Looking a recycling service. People leave certain things in bags at a certain time of the week and i collect and recycle.
Doubt i'd need any insurance too would i as it's only myself??!

But you could be moving a table, walk onto the footpath, and then have a granny's eye out when she's walking past!!

Nah - not that kind of stuff!
Nice thought though - well, not nice - just thoughful!!
As far as my research online suggests - where there's muck - there's money!!

Hi Simon,
There are a couple of guys that do the same thing here in my area.
They come around drop leaflets in advance telling when to leave stuff out.
They state they are not a charity on the leaflets. Not sure if you have to do that? But people are always leaving bags of "stuff" to be picked up.
My dad was a rag n bone man way back in the 60`s :) and I was always getting teased about it at school!
But he made a good living from it :D

This is almost a 'house clearance' service?
If you are entering people's property and/or use the public highway to transport goods then you will need Public Liability Insurance. It is not that expensive and it is best to be safe than sorry!

Not all of it will be recyclable. You will also need a waste disposal license to get rid of the real rubbish legally (businesses can't just use the local tip) and there may be issues around dangerous waste too.

Some things such as refrigerators and electrical goods need thought because of particular rules regarding their recycling/disposal.
We know two recycling operations: see www.junkk.com and www.textilerecycling.co.uk.
