Hello all,
My name is Peter Martin; I am a student at Dudley College currently studying Business Management.
I have been asked to produce an assignment in the expansion of the E.U, is Turkey a step to far?
I am keen to gain a business perception to the above question and would be extremely grateful if any senior businessmen could take the time to follow the link below and fill in a questionnaire.

Thanking you in anticipation.
If the link does not work please copy and paste it into the address bar.

Peter,
I started to answer the questionnaire, but it's asking about how long I plan to live in the UK. I don't! How would you like me to answer this, or am I ineligible?

Surely "businessman" is just a generic term for people in business? Don't let us go down the ridiculous route of having businesswoman and chairwoman etc.

Yes, I don't see businessman covering women, and I don't think many people would these days. I'm surprised to see it from somone studying business management. Careless use of this is something I now associate with crusty old 'business men' with hair growing out of their nose and whose wives never worked.
OK, it wasn't important here, I was just having a little fun with the OP, but it does matter in the real world. There are a lot of men around who don't take women at all seriously in the workplace. And before I sound like a ranting boiler-suit wearer, the job I enjoyed most was in a virtually all-male very masculine environment with plenty of banter and topless calendars on the wall - but the guys there were great fun and took us few women seriously. It's another matter when a manager has a mental blind-spot for half of the world's population.
Matt, would you be happy for someone to call you a business woman?

Of course not, but as I said, the term "businessman" is just a generic term for a person in business, whereas "businesswoman" is a gender specific term.

Was it a man who decided that "businessman" is just a generic term for a person in business?
I don't think this is an equal term to use :D

Let's me honest, it's men who decide everything. If we didn't we'd get nowhere!

Ah go on Matt, I think a dress would suit you.
Anyway it seems clear that the women on this forum find 'businessman' gender specific. Why risk alienating people when just using 'people' instead of 'men' will work?
I wish the OP would pop his head over the parapet and explain himself! I bet he's not been back though. Go on, someone PM him to come and take a look...
