Hi

I am thinking of starting up a skip hire business , targeting the DIY'er and builder market . If you can picture the scene there is town A, village B and town C in a line like this .

A --- B --- C

I wonder if you could give me some opinions on marketing said firm . I have checked the web address's for said towns and both townA/Cskiphire.com/co.uk are available , so i plan to buy those up and get them re-directed to my site (not named as any town skip hire) as i am placed directly in the middle of them .

From researching google adwords there were circa 400 hits per town per month for the last 3 mths of checking at a cost of 1.20 per click (but if i had Town a/c skip hire and someone searched for skip hire Town A/C how would i fair in organic listings ? as i never click a paid link personally whilst searching ) . I guess im asking here how is it worth a PPC campaign v 800 search's directly for what im planning to offer in my immediate locallity bounced back to my site in my location between the two the 2 towns .

I also plan to advertise in the yellow pages for the time being , as well as local paper media (as imo both are a sunset way of advertising as more people get broadband) .

I've been reading about SEo and CRO , do the 2 go hand in hand ?

I prefer the idea of Conversion Rate Optimisation personally (nice easy follow through the site , nothing to impede potential customers say 100 may view but 10 may buy ) V Search Engine Optimasation (a million hits , but 2 customers) just my slant on how things look to an outsider looking in to it , any advice here more than welcomly recieved .

Finally , and this may let the cat amongst the pidgeons , would you display prices online ? or make them ring to ask . Personally I'm divided , I see drawbacks and advantages both ways . I feel if i go the CRO over SEO then I will have to display them . Hey im no Bill Gates tho .

thanks in advance

Hi TRR

Firstly - which ever road you go down I wish you good luck and prosperity.

On the case of marketing we have been pivotal in the success of many 'start-ups' and especially in industries such as yours.

Although our time isn't free - it's well worth looking into - I have client testimonials (within a similar field to yours) that display our proven methods

Let me know if you want some further info

Kind regards

Hi TRR,

You have understood the element of your business without a doubt. In your industry to gain higher conversions you must include your local town and surrounding areas.
i.e. Manchester skip hire company is more likely to convert than just skip hire company if a builder form Manchester was looking for a skip hire company.

The mistake you have made is believing you will need multiple URLs to achieve this result when in fact you only need sub-domains. For example your web address can read as follows: Manchester.skiphirecompany. co. uk and this URL will be dedicated to Manchester skip hire.

Which brings me to my final point, SEO is more about achieving positions on search engines where as conversions are influenced by onsite content. In effect how can you build a wall without any bricks? How can you convert without any traffic?!

Did you check the adwords keyword tool for exact matches, or just broad matches?

Hi

Crewgirl - I was checking for exact matches 'skip hire Town A'

Mud-stx - Gotcha on the SEO/CRO thing , why can't ppl talk in plain language nowadays , its all acronyms this and that .

TBH , part of the reason of my buying up the other domains was to stop any of the other skip hire firms having them (and believe it or not , there are town a / c skip hire that havent registered the domain) , its a kind of 'if ive got it , you won't be having it ' type of thing .

Thanks again

I have to agree with Mud-stx.
By SEO he mean search engine optimisation
By URL he means your web address.
I think in acronym's save time, its quicker when typing and industry standard.
But in all fairness you were using them first lol :D

I understand your idea to buy up urls (domain names) and yes in cities it may be a prudent course of action.
However in the long run it would be much better to create a templated sub domain so that you can add it to your main websites content.
It would also save money in the long run (maybe set up a franchise).
