I am wanting to get to grips with magento and start offering it as a service I provide, however I am going to need hosting for it.
I don't have cash to throw at a dedicated / vps server so what's the best way to have a test magento on it?
My shared hosting account (for my website) doesn't have mysql 4.12 (or whatever magento needs) and I for the life of me can never get wamp running on my laptop. (I can never get the mysql to run with phpmyadmin / phpminiadmin).
Any other options out there? It doesn't need to be amazing quick hosting, just enough to install magento.
thanks

Ah, no it doesn't :)
not used Vista at all though I think someone else using Vista has been able to get this to work - had a quick search though and I can't find it.
what does XP mode in vista do?
It might be worth trying it in that, though I can't offer any guidance - I left windows behind a few years ago now so XP is the last version I have any experience with.
