Anyone know in general if the click through rate is the same for a google organic listing as opposed to a google ppc listing for the same keyword?

Hi Mark. CTR is dependant on a few factors, the position on the page, the title and description and the actual search term. People searching for a 'buying' key phrase may be more likely to click on a PPC listing and people searching for free stuff would be more likely to click on an organic listing.
There was a study done a few years ago which said that the number one organic listing got around 40% on the click throughs, position 2 and 3 got 20%, posistion 4 - 10 got 10% 11-20 got 10%.
That only leaves 20% for PPC. I'm not sure how these figures would look if there where local listings on the page.
From this you can conclude that the top organic listing will normally get a better CTR than the top PPC listing.

Hi Roj,

Thanks for your response. I have read something along the lines of the 40% for position one organic etc, but just wanted to see what correlation that had for PPC.

I am running a test campaign for a few keywords to see, but initial findings seem to be lower CTR as you suggest.

Official google stats I was given were that for every 7 searches, 1 results in a paid click, the other 6 on organic.

it varies WILDLY though between industry and phrases.
