View Full Version : Weapons for self-defence

Something the government's thinking of is allowing the general public to carry weapons around with them to ward of muggers and the like. I'm all for this - Fight fire with fire - but then there's the problem of proving it was done in self defence.
What do you think?
Oh and by the way, we're one member off 3000

I was told by a self defence chap who came in our shop, to do the above and afro combs, the metal ones are good. Also an umbrella can be useful :D

The self defence bloke was a bobby, he said that way Rob said, doesn't work on druggies. You have to smack them in their windpipe or under their noses. One stops them breathing, the other breaks their nose :D

I would vote against, as it would only encourage muggers to carry these things to use on victims, they could then claim self defence if caught with them in their possession

I have never hurt anyone, ever. It was a police man told me to do it when I walked to work for our first business, It was early morning and sometimes Mark would have set off to work before me, if I'd been up late doing book work.

I can't believe that 85% of people (ok - everyone but me!) don't want to protect themselves. The bad guys have the weapons already. Why would you not want to defend yourself?
A neighbouring town to us has an ordinance requiring all home-owners to keep a gun in the house. It has one of the lowest burglary rates in the country. In fact, when we were looking to buy a house in the area, some had no locks on the doors. Homeowners have the right to use force (even lethal force) against anyone who invades their private property.
While I agree that lethal weapons should be registered, you can be sure that criminals don't register theirs.
By the way, are tasers being used now in Britain? I hear that they are. Would anyone object to carrying a taser weapon for self-defence?

I think the problem would be the perception of how it can already benefit those who we're trying to defend ourselves against. If I was physically attacked, I'd instantly want some type of extra level of defense, yet there are too many people out there that I wouldn't trust with any type of weapon on them. Perhaps if it was restricted to tasers, instead of stabbing objects or anything of that nature. After all, you can ban and attempt to control the level of guns available, but banning knives is another matter.
Where did you read this article, Liam?

Oh it was on Richard and Judy lol!
Knives are a big problem, though there are age limits on who can buy them. But go into somewhere like B&Q and they won't batter an eyelid. You can get forks, trowels, spades, any of those would kill you if you swung hard enough!
And Steve, yep they're using tasers, but they're hardly a match for guns are they? Tax payers pay thousands for body armor for the police just so that they get shot in the head!
And I can't believe it either, why not fight fire with fire?!

How much more pathetic can this government get? The only way to deal with violent crime is to do something about about law and order - or to be more precise, enforce the law - do what they were elected to do - do their jobs and earn the huge wage rises they award themselves.
To be thinking of allowing people to arm themselves is tantamount to admitting there is little or no chance of regaining law and order on the streets.
Adopt a zero-tolerance policy towards any type of violent offence and screw the PC brigade and anyone else who bleats about criminals' human rights.

Bigger they are harder they fall
But also - the bigger they are, the harder they hit !
I think a normal decent person carying a weapon is fine, however who says who is decent and who is a thug? And what happens if the decent person is getting mugged or whatever, they defend themselves with a weapon, and our absolutely wonderful system would probably end up with the mugger getting compensation and the decent person going to jail.
I dont carry a weapon, I take my girlfriend, one of her hobbies is kick boxing.
I think the only way to get the idiots off the street is to lock them up rather than giving them a slap on the wrist each time, and lock them up proper, 6 foot square cell for a few years.

The thing is i am from the eastend of london. the things i learned are
Knives, illegal to carry, but keys arn't
If you are a little worried wen u walk the street have a bundle of keys in ur pocket, and be ready to strike if the time comes. you can easily make a knuckle duster with them, as claire righly said.
Also ladies, remeber ur mace, no good in ur handback, no thug is going to wait for you to fish for that while ur being attcked. Keep it in ur pocket.
Also wen u walk down the street and see a group of youths, see if u can cross over. If u cannot pass them by in the gutter. And AVOID eye contact at all costs. For some reason u look at them, they so not like it.
If you are really concerned take up martial arts. I would reckomend kickboxing or taekwondo. These are full contact. But the most u could hand would be up to four ppl. It is always better to run.
A few things i learned.

Guess I'm tooled up and ready to play, I used to live in a part of Bristol which needed me to cross an unsed railway bridge to get to the garage, when I didnt drive. After a bloke was killed on the bridge, I regularly carried something to protect me if I was doing the garage run early in the morning.
I reckon stab proof street fashion, as sported by New Yorkes is where the UK will be in 12 - 18 months. Any suppliers out there?
Offers on the above are always welcome.
