Looking ahead to the future, which may come sooner than i think, i am not sure which will be the best way to take on designers when the workload increases to an appropriate level!

i started off by working as a freelance designer for 2 kitchen showrooms, and over the past 2 years have developed this quite dramatically by use of the internet and the website, to a stage now where i am providing design services to businesses large and small, as well as the freelancing.

the design services through the website are best described as similar to that of a virtual assistant (but design based)- in very very simple terms, notes are sent over and designs or CAD pics are produced along with order lists etc etc (charged hourly rate). Freelance side involves working on behalf of a showroom, visiting clients at home & selling kitchens (paid % commission on sold jobs in this setup).

now if i wanted to have another designer, which way should i turn, baring in mind freelance kitchen designers are few and far between.

is my current setup franchisable? do i hope i can find another freelancer? do i employ part time? is there another option?

i've had a thought about having designers under 'thekitchendesigner' name, and providing them the means to work kind of indepedently but under my business name, but not quite a franchise!!?!

As you can tell i'm at a loss as to what to think, can anyone offer any advice?

If you think your business is going to expand then it is worthwhile starting to advertise for a post. You dont want to be losing out on new business.

Whether or not you want this person to be an employee or freelancer is a desicion you will have to make. If you go for the employee then take into account your payroll (PAYE) undertakings as well.

I am sure other people on this forum have been in similar situations.....
